The Scotch pine, native to Northern Europe and Scotland, is the world’s most widespread pine. It has a long lifespan, typically 150–300 years, with some specimens exceeding 760 years. It features striking orange-red bark and paired, twisted blue-green needles, valued both for their excellent retention as Christmas tree foliage and their high vitamin C content. Gray-brown cones take two years to mature and release their seeds in late spring. Highly versatile, Scotch pine thrives in a wide range of soils and conditions, making it an enduring choice for large landscapes, windbreaks, naturalized plantings.
