The swamp white oak is a long-lived tree prized for its beauty and adaptability. Native to floodplains and swampy areas, it grows relatively rapidly and can live for over 300 years. Its distinctive two-toned leaves, dark green on top and silvery-white beneath, give the species its Latin name bicolor. They provide year-round interest, turning rich shades of orange-gold and yellow in autumn. Unlike many oaks, its acorns grow on long stalks, often in pairs, making them easy to spot. Tolerant of compacted soils and even drought, the swamp white oak thrives in urban landscapes.
