NATIVE

HIGH DROUGHT TOLERANCE

H: 40FT W: 40FT

The canyon live oak is a slow-growing but exceptionally resilient. Its green leaves, with pale blue-gray undersides covered in golden hairs, from which the latin name chrysolepis derives, provide year-round vibrancy. Young trees have smooth, white bark that gradually matures into a rugged gray texture. Thriving in marginal soils, the canyon live oak offers essential food and shelter for wildlife, and its edible acorns, typically harvested in September, can be leached to reduce tannins and improve flavor. Deep roots stabilize steep, rocky slopes, making this oak especially valuable for watershed protection.
