The MBA task force conducted a student survey about the proposed MBA program among graduating senior students in the College of Business, College of Education and Professional Students, and College of Arts and Humanities at the end of May and early June. 107 students responded to the survey. The survey results show that 85% of the respondents are from CB, 14% are from CEPS, and 1% are from CAH. 15% of the respondents are ready to commit to the MBA program, 25% are very interested, and 48% are likely to consider depending on a few factors. Among the 94 respondents who expressed certain interest in the MBA program, 14% are willing to take an MBA with CWU, 29% are very interested, and 55% are likely to apply depending on a few factors. If data is any prediction of real numbers, the first cohort of at least 20 students is very likely. In general, responses demonstrate a demand for a MBA program at CWU. 49% of the respondents think a general MBA degree that provides a holistic understanding across different business areas and functions is extremely appealing or very appealing, and 38% think it is moderately appealing. In addition, 69% of the respondents think a stackable MBA in which specialized graduate certificates across different colleges in CWU can be stacked onto the MBA core courses to create an MBA degree with a customized specialization is extremely appealing or very appealing, and 33% think it is moderately appealing. In terms of the modality, 51% of the respondents prefer a fully online MBA, and 49% prefer a hybrid MBA online with a face-to-face networking component on Westside. This is in line with the location distribution of the respondents who voluntarily disclosed their contact information: 36% are from Ellensburg, 22% are from Westside and 35% are online. For respondents who are interested in the MBA program, cost stands out as the most important factor in rank order, followed by the length of time and desired specialization offered. When asked about universities to be considered for an MBA program other than CWU, the majority of the respondents listed universities inside Washington State, with the University of Washington to be their top choice. In summary, the survey shows wide and strong interest in the proposed MBA program among CWU students. The program will be competitive due to several factors including the cost, stackability, and flexible modality.
