LitCamp Reimagined! | Grade 3 Leader Guide Green Bunk

READING POWER 20 MIN Word-Reading Skills in Action Today, campers will play a game that reinforces the word-reading skill.

Homophone Sentence Makers Objective Identify homophone pairs.

Get Ready to Play Print and cut out one set of Homophone Pairs Word Cards. Divide the group in half; put the cards face down in a box or on a table at the front of the room. Goal Say a sentence using a homophone pair that either makes it hard or easy to know which word is meant. How to Play the Game 1. Invite one player from each team to the front. Player 1 chooses a homophone pair card and says a sentence using both homophones. (For example, “Where will you wear those shoes?”). 2. Player 2 repeats the sentence, identifying and spelling both homophones in the correct order. (For example, “The first homophone, where, is spelled w-h-e-r-e. The second, wear, is spelled w-e-a-r. ”) If the player can’t identify and spell the words in the correct order, Player 1 can use the words in an easier sentence. 3. The routine continues this way until all of the cards have been used. 4. You can play without keeping score, or you can award teams points for saying sentences that correctly use homophone pairs and for correctly identifying and spelling both homophones in the correct order. 5. To extend play, add more homophone pairs.
