OPENING CAMPFIRE 15 MIN Note On the first day of LitCamp, you may wish to spend extra time in Opening Campfire to review camp routines and your expectations for the group. Introduce the focus, Community Building, and prepare the group for the day’s lesson. Have campers sit in a circle, facing in. Say: Campers , welcome to the LitCamp community! Turn and share with a partner something you know about the word community. After a moment, confirm understanding: A community is a group of people who share something in common. What are some things that you might have in common with other LitCampers? Give campers time to discuss, then invite volunteers to share their ideas as you capture them on the Strengths Board or a large piece of paper. At LitCamp, we will read and talk about wonderful books. We will also find out about the 7 Strengths. The strengths will help us as learners and as members of our community. Wrap up with a song or the LitCamp cheer.
