Respond to Reading Have campers open their notebooks. Explain that they will use the details they recorded in the previous lesson’s chart to help them write about the friendship between Bobbi and Bob Cat. Model In the previous lesson, you gathered details that showed that Bob Cat and Bobbi were friends. Give campers a moment to confer with partners and check their charts. Today, you will use those details to help you write about Bobbi and Bob Cat’s special bond.

MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS If campers prefer, have them first draw pictures to answer the questions about Bob Cat and Bobbi’s friendship. Then have them discuss the pictures with you or a partner before they begin to write.

Write the following prompt and sentence frame on the board: How can you tell that Bobbi and Bob Cat had a special bond?

I can tell that Bobbi and Bob Cat had a special bond because ________________________ . Practice Have campers turn and talk with a partner about their ideas. Then have them work independently to write their own sentence or complete the sentence in their notebooks. Encourage campers to write more about Bob Cat and Bobbi’s remarkable friendship. Invite them to draw a picture to go with their writing. Clarify Remind campers that they can gather evidence from a text to support their opinions. A graphic organizer can help them keep track of details and evidence from the text. CLOSING CAMPFIRE 15 MIN Reflection Question Have partners turn knee-to-knee and discuss this question. Campers, think about some of the friendships in your own life. Why is it important to help our friends? Praise and Affirmation Offer concrete praise and affirmation for campers’ efforts and accomplishments today. Shooting Stars Dance With the group, throw shooting stars (pretend to throw a basketball into a hoop). Campers can do a dance with the praise or put it in their pockets.
