Paint Rock Angus - Annual Bull Sale [11/25/25]

Welcome! Things at Paint Rock Angus are changing and growing every day! Since our last bull sale, we’ve had some wonderful additions to the family. Our daughter, Emma, married Chance Karst, and they welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Lainey Lee! Chance and Emma will be staying on the ranch, working alongside the family to help run the operation. Our son, Asa, and his wife, Rachael, also welcomed a baby boy, Louis Shinn, in August making this their second child. Royce and Skye’s three little ones keep growing and keep us on our toes! We are truly blessed by these new additions! Keeping family involved in this business isn’t as easy as it once was, but we’re grateful to see the next generation carrying it forward. It’s an exciting time in the cattle industry, with prices reaching record highs and herd numbers at historic lows. The demand for high-quality beef continues to grow, and it’s encouraging to see a renewed appreciation for agriculture on the rise! If you are unfamiliar with our program…We winter and calve our females at the ranch, but by May they head to the high elevations of the Big Horn Mountains, where they spend the spring and summer months. The bull calves are then weaned in September and moved here, where they’re started on a high-roughage ration in large, rocky pens to prepare for the fall sale. These bulls are devel- oped to be sound, muscular, and ready to go to work come spring. In years past we have used some of the breeds most influential bulls, however this year we focused solely on using bulls that we raised. We feel that by re-incorporating our genetics back into our program we create more consistent progeny that our customers can count on. With that being said, the genetic merit behind these bulls will shine when their progeny is marketed, for a large group of calves that are similar in their phenotype and kind sell for premiums. We don’t talk enough about the females in our program. Our heifer pairs spend the summer on our highest elevation pasture, over 10,000 feet, where Mother Nature does the culling for us. Those that can’t handle the conditions simply don’t make it home. While it may not be the easiest or most conventional method, we believe this approach ensures that the females who remain in our herd are the toughest, most resilient producers—capable of raising bulls our customers can put their trust in. We have also been PAP testing longer than the PAP EPD has been around. We feel that this is a great way to find the outliers of the high-altitude problem that has been plaguing high desert/mountain herds for many years. As always, our bulls will be wintered, semen tested and delivered in the spring at no charge. Thank you for your interest in our program, and we look forward to seeing you on November 25 th ! The Paint Rock Angus family!
