was a young man with a pleasant voice, and his sermons were full of interesting stories. Moreover, he taught them new hymns and choruses. Pao Chen loved to sing, so she hated to miss a single meeting! One evening ■ Mr. Wang preached about Zaccheus. As he told of how Zaccheus changed when he met the Lord, and confessed and left his sins, several of the girls began to realize that they had never really been changed from hearers to doers. During the closing hymn Pao Chen slipped out into the dark court yard, and missing her after the meet ing, her teacher hurried to a favorite nook near the big tree. She found Pao Chen crying bitterly, and put her arms around her, asking: “What is wrong, Pao Chen?” “Oh, I’m a sinner just like Zac cheus,” Pao Chen said weepingly. “We all were, until Jesus saved us and He can save.you too, just like He d id Zaccheus,” answered Miss Rogers. “But Zaccheus paid back all that he owed.” Miss Rogers began to understand then, and so she prayed silently as she tried to draw out the trouble in . the girl’s heart. Pao Chen didn’t an swer at once, but after a bit she began to talk very slowly and haltingly. “ New Peace (one of her classmates) always has more money than any of us, and her father gives her more every day, and when you borrow from her she never asks you to pay it back. I think she forgets after a bit, and then she is so kind she would not embarrass you. I borrowed some cop pers from her, and I didn’t pay them back!” There, it was out! "How m u c h , Pao Chen?” Miss Rogers asked quietly, for even though it was only a little money she knew it was important to the troubled girl. ‘1 don’t know now, but I’ve been borrowing nearly every day for several weeks.” “What do you think Jesus wants you to do?” questioned Miss Rogers. Pao Chen answered very slowly: “He wants me to tell New Peace I’m sorry, and pay her back and not borrow any more. But—how can I pay her back?” “ If you tell your mother, won’t she help you? She does give you a few coppers for peanuts, and you could save those up and pay New Peace.” Pao Chen nodded, but the task of telling her mother made her very sad, and she said: “ Oh, Teacher, pray for me!” In the dark together they prayed that Pao Chen’s sin be forgiven, and that she might be strengthened to do all that the Lord told her to do. The next morning a new and radiant girl came to see her favorite teacher.

.‘T ^m so happy, Teacher. Mother gave me fifteen coppers to pay New Peace, and when I went to her she was so kind and forgiving. But best of all, my own heart has peace now.” “I am glad, too, Pao Chen,” replied Miss Rogers, “ and I thank the Lord for helping you in every way. Do you really know that all your sins have been forgiven?” “ Yes, indeed, for we learned last week that when we confess our sins God w ill forgive us, and I confessed mine last night at the church.” She paused a moment and then added triumphantly, “Teacher, now I’m a doer of the Word and not just a hearer any more!” Something to Make “Mother, what can I do now?” is the question that is often asked by boys and girls during the vacation days.
