ciety and the Influence for good it exercised on me.”— James J. Davis, Secretary of Labor in the Coolidge ad ministration. “ I personally owe more to Christian Endeavor than to any other existing organization.”—Roger W. Babson. “ No man can measure what a bless ing the Christian Endeavor Society has been to the churches of this land and to the individual believers.” —R. A. Torrey. Conclusion One of Frances Ridley Havergal’s fa vorite hymns is “Take My Life and Let It Be.” Regarding the origin of this hymn, she once wrote in a letter to a friend, “ I went for a little visit for five days. There were ten persons in the house, some unconverted and long prayed for, some converted but not rejoicing Christians. I prayed, ‘Lord, give me all in this house for Thy glory.’ And He did just that. They all became rejoicing Christians. The last night of my visit I was too happy to sleep and passed most of the night in renewing my consecration, and these little couplets formed themselves and chimed in my heart, ‘Take my life and let it be.’ ” If the words of this song are real in the lives of Christian Endeavor members, young people’s work w ill continue to be a power for God until He comes. SEPTEMBER 19, 1943 P LANN ING OUR WORK FOR THIS YEAR E p h e s ia n s 3:14-21 By Lowell C. Wendt Introduction As leaders and members of this so ciety we should pray for those whom we shall contact in the coming year, and our program should be arranged to be helpful to them, as well as for our own spiritual strengthening. Therefore our plans should include this fourfold consideration: ■To be a Christian one must know Christ. As children of God we are to obey His commands. As saints we are to live holy lives. As believers we are to trust the Lord. For Those Who Have Topics I. WE MUST KNOW CHRIST (v. 17). 1. Believers were first called Chris tians at Antioch (Acts 11:26). This name was given because they believed, followed, and exemplified Jesus Christ. Paul prays for these people at Ephesus: “ That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith.” Christ has a place in many people’s minds. Through history, Sunday- school, and church they have known of Jesus. But Christ is to dwell in our hearts. The meaning of this word “ dwell” is “to settle down permanent

ly.” Physically, the heart is the very center of our life. Spiritually, we are to receive God’s Gift (Rom. 6:23) into the very center of our lives and then He becomes our life (Col. 3:4). This is accomplished only through faith, and faith is a gift of God (Eph. 2:8, 9). It comes by reading the Bible, God’s Word (Rom. 10:17). . 2. Therefore the primary aim in our year’s program is to make it possible for young people to receive Christ that they, too, may be called Christians. II. WE MUST GROW IN THE CHRIS TIAN LIFE (v. 16). There are three things necessary to assure spiritual health and growth. 1. Read the Scriptures (2 Tim. 2:15; 1 Pet. 2:2; Acts 17:11). The Holy Spirit w ill reveal Christ to us (John 16:13; 14:26). 2. Pray (Matt. 7:7; Phil. 4:6). The Holy Spirit will teach and help us to pray (Gal. 4:6; Rom, 8:15, 26). 3. Witness for Christ (1 Pet. 3:15). The Holy Spirit will instruct us how to do this (Lk. 12:12). In our year’s program we must in corporate these three elements, and the Holy Spirit will apply them and make us strong Christians. III. WE MUST LIVE HOLY LIVES (vs. 18, 19). 1. When we realize how greatly the Lord loves us, we more fully appreci ate our salvation (Rom. 5:6; 1 John 4:9, 10). When we experience Christ’s love, we w ill seek to love what He loves, and hate sin as He hates sin (2 Cor. 5:14-17; Rom. 13:14). 2. When we know Christ’s love for lost sinners, we w ill "want to learn about missions, and what we can do to follow the Lord’s command in Mark 16:15. This year, let us learn to appre ciate our salvation more, to live sep arated from sin and the world, and really become interested in .missions and the spreading of the gospel! IV. WE MUST TRUST THE LORD (vs. 20, 21). 1. Just as His love is beyond our
