Basin Blackcap Lady 0172 EXAR Foundation 4077B

Congratulations to the management team of Mark Squires, Donnie Robertson and Kevin Hafner at Express Ranches on a highly successful Fall Bull Sale in which FHCC Foundation was a key contributor. Foundation not only sired the $55,000 top-selling selection to Grimmius Cattle Company but he also sired the 3 rd high selling bull and the top averaging sire group of 10 head or more. We were honored just to see the Express team use genetics from our herd. This is especially true looking back with the knowledge that these matings would have been some of the last that Jarold Callahan would have been involved with before his untimely passing. Personally, I was not close enough to Jarold to accurately call him a mentor but I like many others in the industry was very fortunate to benefit from his wisdom, experience and cow knowledge through numerous conversations in the barn and the boardroom. Those conversations and shared wisdom will be missed.

Lenz Isabel M431

Lenz Farms , Prairie Home, MO

We’ve mentioned before that Bruce Lenz was at the front of the line when it came to FHCC Majority. He stepped up and purchased the very first private treaty share prior to our 2022 sale and has subsequently used Majority harder than probably anyone in the country. That vision and faith has been rewarded with numerous elite Majority progeny. The elite of the elite though is Lenz Isabel M431. When her genomic results came in last summer, her individual index values for both $Maternal and $Combined jumped to the upper limits of the breed. Together they presented an other-worldly combination. At the 2024 National Finals Angus Sale, M431 won the All-Around as the top-valued, $240,000 female selling half-interest to Friendship Farms. Today, nearly a year and a half since her debut, M431 remains centerstage with a +118 $M and +458 $C package that remains nearly unmatched in the breed. Small Cattle Farms, Otterbein, IN Terry Small and h is brother Mike have been repeat herd sire buyers at FHCC. Their initial purchase, FHCC Energize 8562 was one of the fabulous flush brothers to FHCC Emphasize and their latest is FHCC Salvation 1596, a contemporary and paternal brother to FHCC Foundation. Terry and his family have had tremendous success at the Indiana Beef Evaluation Program Bull Test including numerous winners sired by Energize. Their latest IBEP winner came on a double-bred FHCC bull sired by Salvation 1596 and out of Energize daughter. SCF Salvation 2413 was the top indexing Junior Angus bull on test and the $10,500 top-seller in the sale. Ellis Family Farms, Moneta, VA Scott Ellis and his family selected FHCC Blackcap Lady 1232 as one of the top pairs in our 2024 sale. She had a stout Byrd Superball bull calf at her side. That calf, FHCC Superball 4525 has stepped up and performed exceptionally well on test ranking #4 out of 103 multi-breed bulls at the Wardensville Bull Test for average daily gain with an impressive 4.70 lbs/day. Even more impressive, that top-end performance was fueled by a 4.2 Feed-to-Grain ratio.
