Delights for the Senses

at The Grassroots’ Club

N estled in the TGC Clubhouse, just minutes from Yio Chu Kang MRT, is a Singaporean culinary gem: Muslim Delights. Whether you need an event venue, catering services, or a sumptuous dinner with the family, you would be hard pressed to find a better spot for authentic Nasi Padang and a wide variety of Halal food to suit any palate. With humble beginnings in 1997, restaurant founder Hafidah Bte Daud first brought her recipes to an industrial centre in Sungei Kadut. By 2018, Muslim Delights had become a well established brand, earning a feature in the Michelin Guide and a place in the hearts of locals as one of the country’s top five Nasi Padang restaurants. What started with one coffee shop in Payar Lebar evolved into a burgeoning franchise and now TGC members can enjoy Muslim Delights at their club home ground! Local Favourites and Much More If their culinary honours have already piqued your interest, Muslim Delights offers set menus for lunch and dinner at affordable prices. Patrons and TGC staff have lauded their signature Nasi Goreng Ikan Bilis and Ayam Masak Merah as all time favourites. A testament to the talented team in the kitchen.

“MuslimDelights has worked its way up to becoming a favourite choice when it comes to Padang cuisine. Not only do we have a diverse team of chefs, we also have our very own bakery team which bakes the fabulous cakes and dessert for our events.” The restaurant also regularly adds promotional items to its menus, keeping customers coming back for more. At Muslim Delights, the dining experience is never a dull one. Before social distancing restrictions were in place, themed events were often held at the restaurant.

4 natural air purifiers

that you should keep at home

Tan Kok Yam from Grassroots Toastmasters Club highlights the benefit of gardening by giving examples of 4 natural air purifiers. Reference terminology and technical terms are at the end of the page for further clarification.

From our famous Gardens by the Bay to our first UNESCO World Heritage Site Botanic Gardens, Singapore’s status as a garden city is fitting. In fact, it is common for most living in Singapore to see an expanse of greenery, trees, and shrubs outside their homes. Roof top gardens in flats and carparks are also becoming more widespread, where residents gather to experiment with gardening. I am one of such residents, having a rooftop garden near my place in Punggol. As I became more interested in gardening - trying to understand what horticulture is about in the broader scope of gardening can be daunting. Therefore, I am writing this article from an amateur plant hobbyist perspective, where I will share two aspects of plants that interest me – its benefit as an air purifier, and its effect on our mental wellbeing from the perspective of fengshui. Plants as air purifiers Plants can help to improve the air quality and remove pollutants from the environment. They release oxygen during the day in the presence of natural light through the process of photosynthesis. While at night, the plants uptake oxygen and release carbon dioxide, which is called respiration.

Some plants can also uptake carbon dioxide during the night as well because of their ability to perform a type of photosynthesis called Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM). These plants, when placed at home, can improve air quality throughout the day and helps people to sleep better at night. Having these oxygen-producing plants improve the air quality in our home as they give off oxygen at night as well. These plants can also act as air purifier by removing harmful airborne chemical such as Benzine, Formaldehyde, Xylene, and Ammonia.

There are many such plants and four are mentioned here, as they are hardy and easy to upkeep.

Areca Palm Chrysalidocarpus lutersen (Areca Palm, butterfly palm, yellow palm) is one of the best plants to keep indoors. Native to dense tropical forests, it can well survive in areas with less sunlight. This plant absorbs all kinds of harmful gases like formaldehyde and benzene and keeps the air humid. It is preferably ideal for those who suffer from sinus problems. The ability of this plant to release oxygen at night helps improve the air quality and let people sleep better at night. In Feng Shui, the Areca Palm acts like a cushion against negative chi energy, such as ‘sha chi’.
