Ellingson Angus - Annual Angus Bull & Female Sale [2/1/25]

As we enter 2025, the optimism in the cattle industry is at an all-time high. We are in historic times – times where you will reap the returns on your investments in high genetic-merit cattle with a program behind them. I want to invite you to our annual production sale on Saturday, Feb. 1, or any time before that is convenient for you. Our ranch is always open for you to check out the bull offering and the cowherd responsible for it. We enjoy the time we spend with our current and future customers reviewing the cattle and what best suits each of your operations. Ellingson Angus seedstock are being recognized and utilized around the globe. We breed cattle with an emphasis on performance, consisten- cy and maternal stayability – genetics that satisfy the feeding industry and hang quality on the rail, but that never sacrifice the maternal factory for the rancher. Breeding cattle like this generation after gener- ation make our genetics sought after by the feeding industry while also producing market-topping replacement females. It is gratifying to see Ellingson genetics producing profit for our customers in each segment of the industry. Our sale offering is mainly sired by Ellingson-bred A.I. sires. These are sires we rely on to drive the success of our program so you can put your confidence in them to also drive the profitability of yours. We will lead off the sale with the first sons of Ellingson Hi-Range, the $160,000 son of Rangeland that sold to Hamilton Farms and MWC Investments in Canada in our 2022 sale. His first sons were the highlight of the 2024 Canadian sale season, where his sons averaged more than $25,000 for Hamiltons. Their sleep-all-night calving ease, performance, phenotype and maternal excellence make this sire group quite intriguing. Hi- Range, along with 84 direct sons of Ellingson Badlands, will make for a deep offering of bulls with consistency. Badlands is one of the solid breeding bulls of all time. His first set of daughters that calved in 2024 are strong indicators that he could easily go down as one of the breed greats. Ellingson Prolific will again be one of the highlight sire groups. Prolific has become one of the heaviest utilized sires of the industry. His sons were a highlight of our sale and other sales around the nation last spring. He sired two of the top-selling bulls in America in 2024. The Prolific sons are optimum frame-sized individuals with mass and performance, while his daughters possess angularity, girth and fertility. These sire groups, along with the first sons of Ellingson Bold and others,

will allow you to select from large numbers of sons from each sire. We intentionally produce large sire groups, including many three-quarter and full brothers, so you can select multiple similarly bred bulls for consistency. No other place in America will allow you to select from such large sire group offerings. Every bull and registered female is out of a cow family many generations deep in our EA breeding. We are confident in the maternal lineage behind our cattle, for these cow families have been bred and culled on in our environment for generations. These are cow families that didn’t just show up here in the hope that they will produce well; they are cow families that have stood the test of time. We know them and put our trust in them. We have collected fertility data, foot data and performance records on these cow lines. The beef industry starts with a strong maternal factory at the ranch level, and having cows that wean a large calf every 365 days without a lot of extra care is of the utmost importance to ranchers’ profitability. That is why Ellingson Angus continues to collect every aspect of maternal data we can. We think fertility data, foot data and culling data are critical measurements essential in identifying and producing maternal genetics. While we strive to produce fat, beautiful, maternal matrons, we know she is only a maternal matron if she is producing as one. We emphasize foot traits, heifer pregnancy and $M – traits that make a profitable contribution for our customers. Cow families without records backing them are not worth multiplying. Our family works each day to produce the best genetics not only for the future of our operation, but yours and, ultimately, the beef industry. We realize that a lot hinges on our decisions. Therefore, we will never take shortcuts in genetic selections. We will evaluate each animal phenotypically, collect the data, turn in the DNA and, ultimately, find the ones to mass multiply and the ones to cull. As your genetic supplier, we’ll work to make your tomorrow better than today. Sincerely, Chad Ellingson

2025 Ellingson Angus Real-World Genetics Production Sale Catalog

We’re excited to present the first Hi-Range progeny to be offered in the U.S. They have been much anticipated and have not disappointed. Hi-Range’s progeny are consistently good from the first to the last. You’ll appreciate their overall balance, both phenotypically and genotypically, in all areas relevant to commercial cattle producers. Hi-Range has become one of the most talk- ed-about sires in North America after his sons were the high-averaging sire group in the Hamilton Farms Sale last year. His Pathfinder dam is a marquee in our donor lineup. She is a dam of herdbulls and has just

scratched the surface on the poten- tial she has. Many of her sons are highlights in this offering. Hi-Range is owned with Ham- ilton Farms and MWC Investments. Left: HF Hi-Country 7L, a Hi-Range son and the $185,000 top-seller of the 2024 Hamilton Farms Sale.

We are thrilled to lead off the 2025 Ellingson Angus Re- al-World Genetics Production Sale with a standout flush of embryo transplant (ET) brothers from none other than the most notable female in our program, EA Bells Girl 7617, a proven Pathfinder and donor. She has cemented herself amongst the top cows of the breed and as a dam of herdsires. These ET brothers sired by Hi-Range have many of the same impressive phenotypic and genotypic components as their brothers before them. We have believed in this mating since early on – so much that we went back and recreated it this past spring to ensure more coming this spring. You will be impressed with the bulls’ ability to get out and travel, their internal dimension and their over- all physical correctness. Maternal brothers to these bulls include Ellingson Badlands 0285, Ellingson Brickhouse, Ellingson Preeminent, Ellingson Progressive and Elling- son Elite, to name a few. They are full brothers in blood to Lots 4-11, which presents a tremendous opportunity for commercial ranchers looking to add more consistency and predictability in their next calfcrop. Lots 1-3 are flush brothers.

She joined our donor pen this spring and is on a stellar trajectory, already having produced Ellingson Lakota, the second-high-selling bull in last year’s sale going to Alta Genetics, and the lead-off Prolific son in this offering that sells as Lot 43. This is a stellar pair of embryo transplant brothers from one of the top females to ever grace our pastures. Taking into consideration their dam’s track record and what we see from their flushmate sisters, anyone who is serious about jump-starting the maternal strength of their cow- herd should take a close look here. Their Pathfinder donor dam by Koupal Juneau 797 has recorded a production birth ratio of 5/98, a nursing ratio of 5/105, a yearling ratio of 2/103, an IMF ratio of 9/105 and a ribeye ratio of 9/102. Their maternal brother, Ellingson Prolific, was the record-high-selling bull of our 2022 production sale, selling to STgenetics, where he has went on to be the leader of semen sales and sire the third- and fourth-high-selling bulls of the entire Angus breed in 2024. Roger Aberle, Mike Ball, Merit Cattle Company, Arda Farms, Straka Angus, Thorstenson’s Lazy TV Ranch, Pete Bockenstedt, Penhros Farms and Hollow Top Angus own other mater- nal brothers. Ellingson Hi Range 4058 is a wide-topped bull from the Hi Range x Badlands mating. He did not take a backseat to his contemporaries, capturing a 113 weaning ratio in a competitive class. His genomic profile ranks him amongst the elite end of the Angus population for calving-ease di- rect, weaning and yearling weight, scrotal circumference, foot quality, PAP, heifer pregnancy, ribeye area and carcass weight.

Being soft-middled and deep-flanked with a striking pro- file, this Hi-Range son is easy to gravitate toward in the bull pen. His 2-year-old dam by Ellingson Badlands 0285 is wedge shaped and easy fleshing and has a picture-perfect udder. He puts forth a balanced-trait package on paper that will drive your program forward in producing practical, problem-free cattle.

Ellingson Hi Range 4019 is the lightest birthweight EPD and highest calving-ease direct bull in the entire offering. That makes him a perfect option for someone breeding vir- gin heifers. Lots 24-27 offer a unique added bonus, as they are 7/8 brothers, stacking up the mating of Hi-Range x Badlands x Chaps. This weaves together three consecutive generations of commercial-rancher-friendly sires that were bred and developed in our environment.

After seeing how the bulls and females from the Hi-Range x Badlands mating have continued to develop, we are certainly pleased with our decision to again mate all our Badlands daughters in both the 2024 spring and fall breed- ing seasons to Hi-Range. With that said, you can expect more like them to be coming in future Ellingson Angus Real-World Genetics Production Sales. Lot 28 has the same softness, sharp eye appeal and structural correctness that are prominent in cattle from that mating.

The Ellingson Angus herd is managed just like yours – under real-world conditions.

We strive to produce Angus cattle that bend the perfor- mance curve. That means we aim to maximize weaning and yearling performance, while putting downward pressure on mature height and size. Lot 30 accomplishes that feat well, ranking amongst the top third of the breed for growth and the bottom quarter of the breed for mature size. We believe that cattle that can accomplish that are more efficient and profitable in the commercial cow-calf industry.

This is another bull from the Hi-Range x Badlands mat- ing, a combination that presents an excellent selection of bulls that we believe progressive commercial ranchers will appreciate. Ellingson Hi Range 4004 is a wide-based yearling bull with lots of volume and rib capacity. His 2-year-old dam by Sitz Robust 717H did everything we could ask of a cow on her very first try – wean a heavy calf and breed up early to have another.

The Ellingson Angus herd is rooted in maternal excellence – cows that mother, milk and last. We mass-propagate those genetics through an extensive embryo transplant program.

There is added length of body and skeletal size in this Hi-Range son. His Ellingson Roughrider 4202 dam is con- tinually a visitor highlight when touring the cowherd. She is a full sister to the dam of Ellingson Aquifer 9137 and to Ellingson Rough Terrain 9136, a featured high-selling lot in 2020 to Northway Cattle Company, where he has gone on to sire their high-selling sire group in their past few sales. Prolific is one of the most heavily used A.I. sires and currently leads sales for 2024 at STgenetics amongst numerous highly sought-after sires. He is establishing himself as a high-custom- er-satisfaction sire. His sons’ natural base width and muscling, rib capacity, softness and pounds-heavy look will impress you. You will also appreciate the consis- tent foot quality Prolific is stamping into them. In their first year of service, his sons look to have held their condition well covering cows. Still, nothing leaves us more excited than what could become of his daughters. They are some of our fa- vorites in the bred heifer pen, with the same broodiness and soundness as Prolific’s Pathfinder dam. They also are carrying on her superior fertility and were the highest settling sire group amongst the 2023-born heifers. Ellingson Prolific is owned with STgenetics.
