NATIONAL VETERAN PRESIDENT ’ S REPORT CASHLESS SOCIETY
I am sad to say that it was doomed from the start. In my opinion, 12 months was far too long, which al- lowed the Libs to get a foothold into the campaign. The only good point coming out of this campaign is that 40% of Australians supported our brothers and sisters. The campaign must go on and we will bring about change. Thank you, Thomas, and all involved in the campaign.
Comrades, this being the last report sent out for the year, I am only addressing the issues that are confronting us now, and there are quite a few. MUA VETERANS ’ ASSOCIATION AGM This will be held during the MUA Conference which will be held during the last week of Febru- ary and into March. The MUA Veterans” Associ- ation AGM will be held Wednesday and half day Thursday during the week of the MUA Confer- ence. Hoping there are no changes to the MUA Agenda. At this stage visiting overseas dele- gates are still being addressed. MUA Veterans have grave concerns regarding the Middle East conflict with the possibility of a WAR spreading across the whole region. The causes are not hard to understand: K Greed K Control of Markets K Power of Countries K Powerful individuals and corporations
We oppose this move by the Banks, Governments, and Businesses, for many reasons. We will become slaves to the system should a cashless society eventuate. There is a place for both Cash and Card. Please form resolutions and get out into the com- munity to support. The recent AGM of the CPSA passed a resolution against the Cashless Society. The role of Labor has been very poor in some areas. We wonder whether they are coming or going with regard to the buildup of the military, their defence policy which is in line with the U.S. and is not in the best interest of Australia. As written before, we need Defence for the Australian community sup- port and purpose, but not this media driven hate and blame game. This massive increase in Defence spending is not right. This extra money could go towards social programs.
HOSTPLUS
We have had quite a few members concerned with the position of service and maybe not understand- ing the law requirements on first contact in regard to servicing the members. The complaints seem to arise after filling out the required documents; the waiting time for the money to come through and staffing not being up to our requirements. I have addressed our concerns to Warren Smith who ad- dressed the matter with Hostplus and the outcome being they will address our concerns at meetings. I suggested that a Representative address every Vets meeting in the New Year so we can address our concerns. On finishing, the Veteran’s National Executive wishes you and your family the very best for the Season.
PUBLIC HOUSING
This campaign must go on till we reach the targets where there are no homeless. One of the issues is there is a shortage of tradesmen and women. This has highlighted the need for our young to be skilled up so they can peruse the ability to build houses for those in need and Australia.

The USA and Britain must understand the world is aware of how the State of Israel was estab- lished, and the enormous financial support that has been continuously given to the Israelis by the USA, and others. We support the people of Israel, Jews and Pal- estinians who want PEACE and who want to live their lives in PEACE. We do not support the eth- nic cleansing that is taking place. We have supported all the rallies in our ports calling for an end to the slaughter of the people of Palestine. There is a wonderful Journal called “The Beacon’’ which, in each issue gives excellent reports on social justice issues. The Beacon provides the best information that we need.

We have concerns with MEDICARE; there has been a lot of outsourcing without the public knowing. The private operators again. Greed is one of the driving factors plus whilst ever we have a two-tier system, hardships will fall on the public system due to bud- get requirements needed.
