In 2018, the MUA embarked on a strategic campaign advocating for the placement of a Steward on An- chor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) Vessels that can generate a power capacity of 18,000 BHP or more. This campaign was specifically aimed at addressing concerns with Maersk Supply Service which resulted in a victorious outcome for the MUA after a series of legal battles. The MUA’s success resonated through various legal arenas, with victories before the Deputy President of the Fair Work Commission (FWC), a Full Bench of the FWC, a Single Judge of the Federal Court, and the Full Court of the Federal Court. After achieving this remarkable outcome, we made a pledge to our members that our campaign would escalate, aiming for the widespread adoption of sim- ilar terms across the industry. This commitment was delivered, as the Union successfully advocated for the incorporation of the steward’s role on these specific vessels in the log of claims submitted to every em- ployer. The subsequent bargaining sessions were marked by robust discussions, with employers vehemently opposing this particular claim. The resistance from several employers was incredible as none of them
