personal adversity. To now see them achieve this milestone is just beyond rewarding.

She didn’t just recover. She powered through with grit, grace, and unmistakable CAU pride.

First, I’d like to recognize Hormoni, who is graduating from Mercer University with a degree in criminal justice. Hormoni’s family has been with us since the beginning — her mother was my first client! I’ve known Hormoni since she was a young child, and to see her now, stepping into her future with purpose and poise, is special. Mercer also happens to be where I earned my law degree, so I can’t help but feel an added sense of pride and connection. And in a full-circle moment, I’ll never forget that it was her mother who made

Finally, congratulations to Aliyah, who is graduating from Georgia Tech with a degree in cybersecurity. While my Georgia Bulldog loyalty is well known, I have nothing but admiration for the caliber of education and innovation coming out of Georgia Tech. Aliyah’s decision to pursue cybersecurity, a field that continues to grow in importance, speaks to her vision and dedication. As someone who now fully appreciates the value of strong digital security in running a law firm, I know her work will make a real difference. To be even a small part of my clients’ journeys, and to still be in touch years later, means more than I can say. It has been a privilege to be part of their growth, and I look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the years to come. Congratulations to Hormoni, Sierra, and Aliyah, and to all of our clients and their families who are celebrating this season. You’ve earned every ounce of this moment. And we’re proud to have walked alongside you, if only for a chapter.

Graduation season always hits me right in the heart. It’s a time of reflection, joy, and celebration, and for me, it often brings a few welcome surprises in the mail. Among the usual stack of letters and legal updates, nothing brightens my day more than receiving graduation announcements from past clients or their families. These are the moments that remind me why I do what I do.

the diaper cake for my son when he was born. Time has passed, but our families have long stayed connected. Next, we celebrate Sierra, who has earned her degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology from Clark Atlanta University. Sierra came to us as a client, facing the challenges of recovery while keeping up

When you’re an injury attorney, you’re often walking into people’s lives during a challenging chapter — after a car accident, a serious fall, or an unexpected injury. You see the stress, pain, and ripple effects on a person’s health, finances, and family. Sometimes, you’re seeing someone juggle that while also working toward a degree, chasing a dream, or showing up for final exams with a pair of crutches and a smile.

with a rigorous academic and athletic schedule. She stayed on course and continued to excel, including making time for her love of softball. If you know me, you know how much I love baseball, so we always had that connection. But more than that, Sierra’s determination left a lasting impression on me.

Myself and the Kevin Patrick Law team wish you continued success and happiness in all your future endeavors.

It’s my honor to recognize three exceptional young women celebrating college graduations this year. Each of them and their families entrusted us to support them during a time of

From Poolside to Peace of Mind

Don’t Let a Pool Injury Sink Your Summer — We’re Here to Help When summer arrives in Atlanta, so do pool parties, backyard barbecues, and long days in the sun. But while a dip in the water can be a refreshing break from the heat, poolside fun isn’t without risk. Every year, thousands of people, especially children , are seriously hurt in swimming pool accidents. In fact, drowning remains one of the top causes of death for kids under 14, and many non-fatal pool injuries result in hospitalization or long-term medical care. At our firm, we’ve seen firsthand how a joyful day at the pool can turn frightening in an instant. That’s why we’re here, not just to help in the aftermath but also to offer tips on how to stay safe and take the right steps if an injury occurs. KEEP SAFETY TOP OF MIND. Prevention is the first step. Whether you’re at a private home, apartment complex, or hotel, make sure the pool is well-maintained and secured. Keep rescue equipment nearby, and never leave children unsupervised around water, even for a second. Establishing pool rules, such as no running on slick surfaces, no diving into shallow water, and no rough play, is just as important. Education is just as crucial as supervision. WHAT TO DO IF AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS. Despite all precautions, accidents can still occur. If someone is injured at the pool: • Safely remove the person from the water immediately. • Call 911, even if the person seems okay, as delayed symptoms are common with water-related injuries. • Provide basic first aid while waiting for help. • Take photos of the area, speak with witnesses, and gather names and contact information. • Seek medical attention for anyone who may be injured. PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS AFTER AN INJURY. Once the immediate danger has passed, knowing your legal options is crucial. If someone was hurt due to poor maintenance, lack of supervision, or other negligent conditions, you may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Our team can help you investigate what happened, secure critical evidence, and advocate for the compensation you deserve. Contact the Kevin Patrick Law team if you or a loved one has been hurt in a poolside accident . We’re here to help you make informed decisions and move forward with confidence.

A Family Guide to Theme Park Fun Thrive in the Thrills Going to a theme park is one of the most memorable ways to spend a family vacation. Theme parks are full of excitement, but they can also be overwhelming — especially with young kids in tow. The right game plan can turn a day of long lines and potential meltdowns into a fun, memorable adventure. PLAN SMART, PLAY HARD. Rather than simply packing up and heading to the park, take some time to research and plan your trip. Look into show schedules and ride restrictions, such as height limits, ahead of time so you can plan your day. Many parks also have mobile apps to track wait times and order food. Visit the most popular attractions early before the crowds swell. Visiting on weekdays or during off- peak seasons also helps avoid long lines to maximize your family’s fun. REMEMBER SNACKS, DRINKS, AND SUN PROTECTION. Theme park restaurants can be expensive and busy. If you plan to dine in the park, make reservations to avoid wasting precious time in long lines. If allowed, pack your own lunch to save time and money. It’s also wise to carry reusable water bottles to keep the family hydrated without breaking the bank on expensive bottled water. If visiting a park during summer, don’t forget the sun protection. Sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and breathable clothing are a must when walking all day in the heat. Taking a few minutes for a midday break in a shaded area or at an indoor show will help the family recharge for the rest of the visit. KEEP EXPECTATIONS FLEXIBLE AND FUN. Even with careful planning, things won’t always work out like you hope — expect ride closures, long lines, and cranky kids. Creating a list of backup attractions or activities can help you easily pivot if Plan A doesn’t work out. And don’t try to see everything in one visit. Trying to hit every ride can backfire and make the trip miserable. Often, the best memories happen in unexpected moments. A little structure mixed with flexibility can lead to a lot of fun and ensure your family’s theme park adventure is about making memories rather than managing stress.

Did Old Hollywood Stars Really Talk Like That?

Why Did Old Hollywood Sound So Fancy? Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and the Art of Speaking Like an Aristocrat

There’s a certain charm to old Hollywood movies — glamorous stars, sweeping orchestral scores, and, of course, that oddly posh, vaguely British way of speaking. You know the one. The voice makes Katharine Hepburn sound like she’s perpetually midway through an important luncheon and Cary Grant appear to deliver a one-liner while also sipping afternoon tea. This isn’t just a coincidence; it’s the Transatlantic accent , and for a while, it was the gold standard of sophisticated speech. Unlike normal regional dialects, the Transatlantic accent wasn’t something people naturally developed by growing up in a particular area. It was an acquired accent drilled into the minds of upper- crust New Englanders at elite boarding schools and embraced by stage actors who wanted to sound refined. Essentially, it was the linguistic equivalent of wearing a tuxedo at all times.

Why? Because it made actors sound polished, articulate, and, quite frankly, fancy. The crisp, clipped tones worked wonders for those speedy, back-and-forth screwball comedy exchanges. Just watch “His Girl Friday” and try not to be dazzled by the machine-gun dialogue between Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell! And then, just as suddenly as it arrived, the Transatlantic accent packed its bags and vanished. By the 1950s, Hollywood started shifting away from aristocratic dramas and high-society stories, opting instead for gritty realism and everyday characters. The era of Marlon Brando and James Dean meant mumbling was in, and sounding like you vacationed on the French Riviera every summer was … well, out. Of course, we can still enjoy the legacy of the Transatlantic accent in classic films. Want to master it yourself? Pick up “Speak With Distinction” by Edith Skinner, the holy grail of

old-school elocution training. Soon enough, you’ll drop your R’s, crisp your T’s, and stretch your vowels until “dance” becomes “ dahnce .” After all, old Hollywood may be gone, but its impeccable enunciation will never go out of style.

Hollywood, never one to pass up a trend, adopted this cultivated accent in the early days of talkies.
