Electric Skyline was commended for this project involving an environmentally-sensitive landscape, requiring expert care and attention to detail. LED lighting was supplied and installed for the new bridge structure including integrated handrail lighting, ground/strip lighting, decorative lighting columns and a smart lighting control system. This project included lighting pods seamlessly integrated into the steel curved handrail. LED strip lighting was integrated into the curved bridge surface under the benches. A bespoke lighting system including smart control technology has enabled the client, Galway City Council, to access both enhanced and remote-control capabilities. Eclipse Integration scooped Lighting Project of the Year for its complex works on Athlone Castle Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge. Judges were enthused with this project as it required the custom design and manufacture of LED lighting and control systems suitable for a harsh marine environment. Compatibility with another bridge was also required to facilitate synchronised lighting shows via a cloud-based interface. The final design utilised 420m of an IP68-rated flexible digital LED strip to run down each side of the walkway, as well as custom-built marine grade lighting control panels to house all control equipment and power supply units.
