Ireland's Electrical Issue 104 Aug-Sept

Keelings Flowers’ new 8,500sqm factory project was fast- tracked, requiring PMcK Electrical to manage the project efficiently and sustainably. PMcK Electrical handled the main shell, core, and general electrical installations. Electrical services included 20kV MV intake, packaged substations, LV distribution, lighting, life safety, automation, security and access control systems. PMcK Electrical faced challenges including a tight timeline and supply chain disruptions but was able to leverage its relationships. Electrician of the Year Gary O’Neill qualified as an electrician in 2016 and, aged 32, is a director in his family business. His career history spans various sectors across Ireland and Australia, in which he has amassed an impressive range of experience, qualifications and accolades, and demonstrated a commitment to community outreach. Gary reached the final of the Screwfix Top Tradesperson competition in 2022, volunteered on DIY SOS in Waterford in 2021 and supports charity initiatives such as the JJ Connolly Family Fun Day fundraiser for the Irish Kidney Association. Acquiring the trade alongside his father and becoming a limited company together in 2024, the duo strives to provide the best service and quality of work to their customer base. Judges were thrilled to learn how the vast majority of work Gary and his father secure comes from word of mouth alone. With an experience “unmatched” in the electrical industry for someone of Gary’s age, he is now director of the company and has plans to teach the next generation of apprentices. This inspirational individual has driven the company’s journey into the renewable energy sector, receiving a QQI certificate for Solar PV installations last year. Gary believes it is vital, as an electrical contracting company, to stay at the forefront of clean energy technologies for the benefit of the climate and generations to come.
