You May Find Yourself in a Crowd This Autumn

4 Tips to Avoid Injuries at Large Events

For large events, it’s best to avoid flip-flops or sandals and stick with sneakers or boots.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT CLOTHING. Just like your shoes, your clothing is also essential when staying safe. Try to avoid any garments or accessories that are too loose. This will help prevent anyone from yanking or pulling on your clothes, and your clothes won’t get caught on objects, thus creating a safety hazard. LOCATE THE EXITS AHEAD OF TIME. When you arrive at your destination, it’s best practice to identify the exits closest to you. That way, if an emergency arises, you won’t be lost in the stampede of people searching for where to go.

As autumn begins in Texas, more of us will start attending fall festivals, football games, fairs, and parades. Large groups typically accompany these events, and being around new people is always exciting. While these occasions can be a lot of fun, they can also be where injuries commonly occur. Stay safe with these four tips when you venture into large crowds this season. WEAR THE RIGHT SHOES. You’ll likely be standing on your feet for extended periods at large events. It’s important to pick shoes that are comfortable and fit correctly. Closed-toe shoes can help avoid blisters or cuts on your feet that can potentially become infected. Choosing a shoe that fits perfectly is also important if you need to run unexpectedly. You don’t want to wear footwear that can fall off, trip you up, or slow you down. Texas-Sized LAUGHS

If the event you’re attending is outside, take a moment to identify places where the crowd is less dense and perhaps easier to move through.

STAY HYDRATED. Standing for extended periods in the heat generated by large groups of people can impair your ability to regulate your body hydration. Texas is still in the 80s during September and the beginning of October, so beware of the toll the hot sun can take on your body. Alcohol consumption can also contribute to dehydration. While spiked cider is hard to resist at autumn events, remember to drink at least 16 ounces of water for every 12 ounces of beer or 4–6 ounces of liquor!

Stay mindful of yourself and your family members this fall to remain safe and avoid injury. Have fun!
