Background The University of Chester was founded in 1839 by a distinguished group of local leading figures and was the UK’s first purpose-built teacher training college, making Chester one of the longest-established higher education institutions in the country. In 2005, University College Chester was awarded full university status and became the University of Chester, and the institution has since gone from strength to strength. We now welcome students from 115 countries worldwide, providing them with a vibrant, diverse, and safe home while they study with us.
