Chapter 12: The Great Pumpkin Patch Caper
The autumn air was crisp and cool at Maplewood Farm, and the trees were ablaze with vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. It was the perfect time for the annual pumpkin harvest, a beloved event where the farm’s animals helped gather pumpkins for Farmer Jenkins’ famous pumpkin pies. Buck, Star, Daisy, and Thunder were especially excited this year because they had a special role to play.
Farmer Jenkins had assigned them the task of guarding the pumpkin patch. Every year, the local raccoons tried to sneak away with the best pumpkins, and this year, the horses were determined to keep the patch safe.
“Guarding the pumpkin patch sounds like an important job,” Buck said, his eyes gleaming with determination. “We’ll make sure no raccoons get near those pumpkins.”
Star flicked her mane confidently. “Those raccoons won’t know what hit them.”
Daisy bounced on her hooves. “We should make a plan. Maybe we can set up some kind of watch.”
Thunder nodded, his gentle voice full of resolve. “Let’s work together and make sure the pumpkin patch stays safe.”
That night, the horses gathered in the barn to discuss their plan.
“We’ll take turns keeping watch,” Buck said, laying out the schedule. “Star, you take the first shift. Daisy, you’ll go next, then Thunder, and I’ll take the last one.”
