Harrogate, Howard & Harewood MONDAY 28TH AUGUST – FRIDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER £655pp Among the undulating hills, evolving scenery and stone-built villages, Yorkshire’s rich heritage is unrivalled. At its heart is the stately home of Castle Howard, sprawling over acres of rolling countryside, and Harrogate, the county’s premier spa town where the grandeur of a Yorkshire of yesteryear prevails and of course the most famous of tea shops. Day 1 Depart from your home, in the morning and travel to Harrogate arriving during the afternoon at the Old Swan Hotel. Day 2 Our day begins with a trip to Castle Howard, one of Britain’s finest historic houses, situated near York in the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Discover the house at your own pace, admiring its awe-inspiring architecture, interiors and world-renowned collections, with something to capture everyone’s imagination. Friendly and knowledgeable guides are on hand to share stories of the house, family and artwork. This afternoon we then head to the only major town in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Helmsley. We spend the afternoon here where we could enjoy an ice-cream and time to explore the quaint market town. Day 3 After a leisurely breakfast, we head for Harewood House, one of the Treasure Houses of England, set in the heart of rural Yorkshire. The house holds an impressive art collection including renaissance masterpieces, exquisite Thomas Chippendale furniture, all combined with 100 acres Gardens and a renowned lakeside Bird Garden. This afternoon we head to the market town of Skipton, known as the ‘Gateway to the Dales’. The High Street leads up to the church, behind which you see the impressive 900-year-old castle and Skipton Woods. Skipton Castle is one of the most complete and best-preserved castles in England. Day 4 Today is free for you to explore the pretty town of Harrogate. Enjoy a lovely stroll through beautiful Valley Gardens, explore the delightful Victoria arcades for some retail therapy. Have a relaxing lunch in one of the many restaurants, cafes and bars – maybe even visit the famous ‘Betty’s Tearooms’. Day 5 After a leisurely breakfast we leave and begin our journey home.

Folkestone & Kent

MONDAY 21ST – FRIDAY 25TH AUGUST

From our base in the picturesque town of Folkestone on the south coast of Kent, we enjoy the many delights of the county, including trips to Broadstairs and Deal and a ride on the famous Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. Day 1 Following collection from home we head to Royal Tunbridge Wells for some free time before continuing to our hotel in Folkestone for a stay of 4 nights. Day 2 Today’s excursion takes us north along the coast to Broadstairs and Deal first, then to the historic cathedral city of Canterbury where we have the afternoon to explore at your own pace. The city is dominated by the magnificent Cathedral, now a World Heritage Site, and the city centre, being very compact, is best explored on foot. There is a maze of intriguing side streets with a rich variety of specialist shops and welcoming cafes and pubs in which to relax. Day 3 Spend your day free exploring the coastal town of Folkestone. Day 4 A short ride takes us to the small resort of Hythe. Here we join the worlds famous Romney Hythe and Dymchurch railway – Kent’s mainline in miniature. The train takes us alongside Romney Marsh to New Romney where we take a short break and rejoin the coach to continue to ancient Rye, one of the Cinque Ports, now some distance from the sea! Day 5 Departing after breakfast, we make the journey home pausing at Rochester on the way.
