Summertime in Northumbria SUNDAY 3RD – FRIDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER £689pp Experience Northumbria with us on our end of summer break. We stay at the popular Millennium Copthorne Hotel in Newcastle, which is the perfect base for us to spend free time in Durham, Alnwick and Newcastle. We also travel to the Holy Island and Bamburgh. Day 1 Following collection from home, we travel to Newcastle, arriving late afternoon at Copthorne Hotel where we will be welcomed with tea/coffee and biscuits. Day 2 This morning we head for the coast and South Shields, home of the late Catherine Cookson, continuing past Marsden Bay, Whitburn and Seaburn before turning inland across to the ancient and historic City of Durham, acclaimed as a World Heritage Site and dominated by the magnificent Norman Cathedral and Castle, high above the River Wear. Late afternoon we return to Newcastle. Day 3 Today we take the road north, past Blyth and Ashington, to Amble, Warkworth and historic Alnwick. We have time to look round the town, with its mighty castle, and obtain lunch before returning south to Morpeth for a short break before making our way back to the hotel. Day 4 A free day for you to explore and enjoy Newcastle. Just a short walk along the quayside from your hotel is the Millennium ‘Winking Eye’ bridge and Newcastle’s famous quayside. Enjoy a riverside stroll before maybe enjoying lunch in a quayside pub, or take a walk into the city centre for lunch and some retail therapy in Eldon Square shopping centre. Day 5 Today’s excursion takes us to the north of Northumberland across the causeway to Holy Island and the mysterious Lindisfarne Castle. We return to Bamburgh, with its mighty castle on the beach, for a break, maybe to visit the majestic castle on the beach, or the Grace Darling Museum. NOTE: The crossing of the causeway to Holy Island is governed by tide times. It may be necessary to amend this excursion. Day 6 After breakfast we leave and begin our journey home.

Royal Connections, London SUNDAY 10TH – TUESDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER £565pp

Make it a royal occasion with a visit to our country’s capital and the home of the Royal family.

Day 1 Before going to our hotel, we have an early afternoon visit to The Household Cavalry Museum housed within one of the city’s most historic buildings. A living museum, it comes alive with compelling personal stories and first-hand accounts of the rigorous training regime. We later check in to our hotel and the evening is free to explore. Day 2 After breakfast we make our way to Buckingham Palace in time to see the mid-morning Changing of the Guard ceremony. Afterwards, we have ample time to explore inside Buckingham Palace, one of the few working royal palaces in the world. All rooms are furnished with many great treasures from the Royal Collection. The rest of the day is at leisure, perhaps take a stroll in nearby St James’s Park and see the pelicans or find a nice spot for late lunch. Day 3 After breakfast, we make the short journey to Clarence House, the cherished home of the late Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. Here we have a guided tour, during which explore the sumptuous rooms where many of the pieces on display form part of The Queen Mother’s collection and are still laid out as she left them. On completion of the tour we head for home.
