Austrian Lakes & Peaks of Perfection

We visit the elegant city of Salzburg, the lakeside town of Zell am See, the summer retreat of Franz Joseph I and the gorgeous town of Hallstatt. Also enjoy a boat trip and a journey by mountain railway. This tour is operated by Woods of Bognor Regis Day 1 After an early pick up, we travel to Folkestone or Dover for our Channel crossing to France. We continue through France, Belgium and into Germany to our overnight hotel south of Cologne. Day 2 After breakfast, we continue our journey into Austria reaching our hotel in Plankenau late afternoon. We are greeted with a welcome drink before our first Austrian dinner. Day 3 Today we visit the glorious home of ‘The Sound of Music’, Salzburg. We have included a two-hour guided walking tour before having the rest of the day free for your own exploration. Tonight we enjoy a themed BBQ or buffet. Day 4 We visit the pretty town of Zell am See. Take a stroll through the medieval centre and along the lake shore, or take in the picturesque scenery with a boat ride* on the lake or a cable car ride up into the mountains*. Back at our hotel, we enjoy coffee and cake. Day 5 We begin our day with the delightful spa town of Bad Ischl. We have included entrance and a guided tour of the beautiful Kaiservilla, where Emperor Franz Joseph I and Sisi once spent their summers. We move on to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hallstatt, where we take a cable car up to the ‘Skywalk’ viewing platform to experience the amazing views of the surrounding area. Day 6 We travel to the shores of St Wolfgang and the traffic-free village of Gilgen. After time to explore the village, we enjoy a 30-minute cruise across the water to the famous resort of St Wolfgang. Here we join the steepest cog railway in Austria – the Schafberg Mountain Railway, which takes just 40 minutes to climb 1783 metres. On a clear day, you are treated to a 360˚ panoramic view of the sparkling lakes of Wolfgang in Austria. Day 7 With a farewell wave to Austria, we head north to our overnight hotel south of Cologne. Day 8 Leaving after breakfast, we continue into Belgium and through France, returning to Calais for our Channel crossing to the English coast. From here we travel west to the local area, arriving in the evening. Please note: Twin bedrooms are ‘Austrian twins’, meaning two mattresses with individual bedding in one bedframe. *These excursions are not included and need to be booked and paid for locally.

Trams, Boats and Bulbs

Enjoy a delightful spring weekend break with a distinctive Dutch flavour visiting the magnificent, world-famous gardens at Keukenhof. We also have an included trip through time by steam tram and on a museum boat cruise. This tour is operated by Woods of Bognor Regis Day 1 After our early morning taxi pick up, we make our way to Dover for a mid- morning crossing to Calais. We then travel through Belgium and into Holland, arriving at our hotel late afternoon. Day 2 Our incredible day begins with a drive to Hoorn where we board the steam tram for our journey through lovely Dutch countryside to Medemblik, with coffee and pastries served on board. After some free time to explore this historic town, we board the museum ship Friesland for a 1½ hour-cruise to Enkhuizen, where we are met by our coach. We continue on the incredible 27km dyke across Ijsselmeer, the largest inland lake in Western Europe. We then cross the Polder and travel back to our hotel. Day 3 After breakfast, we leave for a full day excursion to the world-famous Keukenhof Gardens. Over 70 acres of parkland contain a vast collection of hundreds of thousands of flowers displayed in beautifully landscaped gardens. Day 4 Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel west and have a stop in the beautiful medieval town of Bruges. We continue to Calais to catch our late afternoon crossing to Dover, and then continue home.
