Our Norwegian adventure begins in the beautiful Telemark region and continues to the famous Kviknes Hotel Balestrand, which has a sensational location right on the Sognefjord. See the varied and dramatic landscapes travelling along sparkling lakesides, around sheltered fjords, across majestic high mountain passes, past glaciers and waterfalls and through hamlets and villages. Our hotels in Balestrand and Vrådal are both members of Norway’s prestigious Historic Hotels group.

This tour is operated by Woods of Bognor Regis Day 1 Travel to Folkestone for the short Channel crossing to Calais. Our overnight hotel is near Arnhem. Day 2 We travel through Holland and into Germany, north past Bremen and Hamburg. We cross into Denmark near Flensburg and continue to Kolding for a late check-in, dinner and overnight stay. Day 3 After an early breakfast, we travel through Rutland to Hirtshalls for the fast craft ferry to Larvik in Norway. We travel inland and though wonderful lakeland scenery, passing Bo and crossing the famous Telemark Canal to arrive in Vrådal for a two-night stay. Day 4 A free morning to enjoy Vrådal and the facilities at our hotel. This afternoon we have a two-hour scenic cruise on Lake Nisser on the veteran 1909 boat MS Fram. Day 5 A beautiful day as we cross the Haukelifjell Mountain Road and descend to Sörfjord, a branch of the Hardangerfjord, at Odda. We travel the western shore of the fjord, overlooked by Folgefonn Glacier, and have a short ferry crossing to Kvanndal. Up past Voss and Gudvangen, we reach the Vik Mountains, crossing over and down to Vik. Our ferry across the mighty Sognefjord takes us to Balestrand and our beautiful hotel, where we have a three-night stay. Day 6 - Relax and enjoy our idyllic location before we cross on the late morning ferry and take the road hugging the fjord, past waterfalls and onto Sogndal and the Folk Museum in Kaupanger, which has almost 40 authentic historical buildings, from the Middle Ages to the 20th Century. Day 7 - Our ‘Glacier Route’ excursion! We ascend the Gaularfjell High Mountain Road, through nine dramatic hairpin bends before finally arriving in Skei, at the top of Lake Jolstra. We stop to see the Boyabreen Glacier before visiting the Glacier Museum, for a remarkable insight into this beautiful area. We continue along Fjærlandsfjord with plenty of photostops before another ferry crossing back to our hotel. Day 8 - Today has more stunning scenery as we take in fjords, river valleys and Norway’s southern coastline. We begin with two short ferry crossings before joining the old Oslo/Bergen post route through the Lærdal Valley with a photo stop at the magnificent Borgund Stave Church. We drive through the popular ski region of Hemsedal and continue south to our overnight hotel in Horten. Day 9 - An early breakfast before a relaxing crossing from Larvik to Hirtshalls.
