Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo SATURDAY 5TH – WEDNESDAY 9TH AUGUST 2023 £754 Marching bands and Military demonstrations, against a backdrop of the floodlit castle, make the 72nd Edinburgh Tattoo an exciting spectacle. An astonishing display of marchers, dancers and bandsmen entertain the crowd from the moment the ‘voice of the castle’ brings the audience together at the start. This spectacle will amaze and enthral the visitor through to the grand finale after which a lone piper draws the evening to a haunting close. Day 1 Travel to our hotel in Drymen, on Loch Lomond, making suitable comfort stops. Day 2 Spend the morning at leisure in Stirling, renowned as the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’. There are many shops to visit and restaurants to obtain lunch. In the afternoon we visit the word-famous Kelpies, the largest equine sculpture in the world. Opportunity to take pictures and obtain refreshments in the cafe before returning to our hotel. Day 3 After breakfast we have a free morning in Drymen before our included soup and sandwiches at our hotel before we travel to Edinburgh. We have free time to purchase an evening meal before our performance of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, an exciting evening awaits us. Upon return to hotel, there will be light snack waiting for us before we retire for the evening. Day 4 After a late breakfast we journey through the spectacular Trossachs National Park, stopping enroute on the shores of Loch Lomond for a photo opportunity. We continue to Inverary, a charming town which lies on Loch Fyne. Opportunity to visit the famous Jail and Courthouse (entry extra) and the whiskey shop for a tasting or two! Time to purchase lunch in one of the tea rooms/cafes and to look around the independent shops before continuing through the Trossachs to pretty Callander. Day 5 After breakfast return to home area making suitable comfort stops along the way. Please note the day of the Royal Edinburgh Tattoo performance is subject to change. The stunning countryside and picturesque villages of the Ribble Valley are home to some mysterious residents and this tour explores the haunting and ghostly goings on in this area of Lancashire. Day 1 We depart home are and after making a suitable refreshment stop, we continue to Lichfield for free time to purchase lunch before continuing to our hotel. We enjoy a welcome tea/coffee whilst our luggage is taken to our room. Day 2 This morning we depart on a full guided tour of the Ribble Valley to include, time allowing, stops at up to 5 Inns! Hear stories of textile rioting and ghostly sightings in Clitheroe. See the law courts upstairs in the famous 1693 Hark to Bounty Inn before an included lunch (soup, sandwich, glass of ale & tea/coffee) at the Calf’s Head, Worston. We then continue to the Sun Inn at Chipping, Lancashire’s most haunted public house, before stopping in Whalley enroute back to our hotel. Day 3 Today we travel north for a visit to Skipton and a cruise on the Leeds iverpool Canal. With humorous and interesting commentary, the history is important thoroughfare is brought to life. After free time in the town, continue to the Yorkshire Dales for a stop in Grassington, one of Yorkshire’s prettiest villages with numerous tea rooms, delightful and quaint shops. Day 4 Today we explore ‘Pendle Witches’ country with a guide. Learn about the local women who were branded as witches and out on trial in the 15th century. Afterwards visit Samlesbury Hall a beautiful half-timbered medieval house with a turbulent and dramatic history and now one of the most haunted locations in Britain. Day 5 After breakfast we depart for home area stopping in Stamford for free time and lunch to be obtained.
