Since the closing of the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto on June 21 of this year due to “serious structural issues” relating to Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), the Ministry of Education has reported that 360 schools in the province also have RAAC within their structures, eight of those schools are under the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO). RAAC panels are a lightweight, precast concrete used in construction between the 1950s and 1980s. La pétition demande non seulement l’ins- tallation immédiate d’un arrêt à quatre voies
et de bandes rugueuses à l’intersection de la route 200 et du chemin St-Pierre, mais aussi d’évaluer et de mettre en œuvre les mêmes mesures à toutes les intersections où la vitesse est de 80 kilomètres à l’heure. «La sécurité doit être une priorité et non une réflexion après coup», a déclaré Mme St-Pierre. Le 8 avril 2024, la Commission a demandé au personnel d’examiner plus de 15 intersections régionales à quatre voies sans arrêt. La Commission attend un rapport contenant des recommandations à ce sujet au mois d’août.

Darryl Van Moorsel of London won the Kin Club of Russell’s Catch the Ace’s weekly prize of $21,966 this past Sunday, July 7. Van Moorsel selected envelope #31 which revealed the King of Diamonds. The next effort to find the Ace will be held next week. The jackpot is estimated at $649,000 with 18 envelopes left. All proceeds after approved expenses, goes to charity. Dans le but de promouvoir des rues plus sûres et d’encourager les conducteurs à ralentir, le canton de Russell offre gra- tuitement aux résidents des panneaux de pelouse « Ralentissez.» Ces panneaux servent de rappel visuel pour les conducteurs afin qu’ils fassent attention à leur vitesse et qu’ils accordent la priorité à la sécurité de la communauté. Les panneaux sont offerts en français et en anglais. Ils sont de couleur jaune vif et comportent des figures de différents types : une personne en fauteuil roulant, un cycliste, un promeneur de chien et des enfants qui paient. Ils rappellent aux conducteurs que tout le monde partage la route, y compris les personnes qui ne sont pas à bord d’un véhicule. South Nation Consevation (SNC) and the Raisin River Conservation Authority (RRCA) were forced to end public consultations on their updated wetland mapping and regula- tions after complaints from residents alerted the Ministry of Natural Resources. SNC, RRCA, as well as the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, were ordered to put an end to their plans to update their wetland maps in Eastern Ontario by the Ontario government last week. Landowners, including farmers, were apparently caught off guard by the proposed changes to the conservation authorities newly issued wetlands maps. Conservation autho- rities have the jurisdiction in their respective areas to designate land as significant wetland and implement measures to protect it. While the SNC and RRCA held public consul- tations, according to reports from the CBC, landowners were not made aware of the open houses held across the region in June. SNC’s website lists open house events were set to be held on June 26 and 27 in Manotick and Finch, respectively, but have been cancelled

Please note that this means that open houses and one-on-one meetings with property owners will be paused and resche- duled at a later date,” reads the statement.
Wetland designations can ultimately impact what can be developed on a property. New Ontario regulations implemented in April require conservation authorities to prohibit development within 30 metres of all wetlands, a change from previous regulations that only
