The first sentence of a news article is also known as the lead . It tells the main idea of the article. It should also make the reader want to learn more details. A lead sentence tells the reader the who, what, when, and where of the news event. Reporter Rita Weil has made notes in her reporter’s notebook about a strange news event in the town of Nada Vista. Read her notes and find the who, the what, the when, and the where of the news event. Using that information, write a lead sentence about the news event on the lines at right. What’s a lead?
