Ireland has a generally good overall natural environment compared to many other countries 11 . However, many challenges remain in protecting this resource and globally we face a significant threat due to climate change. The RSES seeks to integrate sustainable economic and social development with the protection and enhancement of the natural environment. It has a strategic vision of advancing social progress and prosperity through sustainable policies for allocating resources and developing a quality human environment consistent with respect for the natural environment.
