A FOCUS ON YOU Your Goals Are Ours

When my dad, Cecil, embarked on the

Our clients aren’t account numbers; they’re like family. What I cherish most about our work is building relationships. Discovering new products that make a difference is a blast. Whether it’s face- to-face at tradeshows or helping emerging manufacturers align with our values, we’re all about growth together. You know you’re doing something right when clients cherish your handwritten notes, some even saving them. There’s genuine fulfillment in guiding clients through equipment issues, answering their questions, and alleviating their stress. Today, it’s incredible that our business spans all 50 states and Puerto Rico, supporting chiropractors and their patients. Looking ahead, what excites me most is the continued emphasis on service. It’s not just about business; it’s a way of life. Work is essential, and creating value for others is the key to rewards — a philosophy passed down from my dad, which will be proudly continued by our son, Bennett, as he gets older. As I look to the future, the prospect of putting service at the heart of our business remains a beacon of inspiration. I’m proud Bennett will learn to understand the importance of service; it brings immense joy. In a world where time with family is a precious commodity, having him alongside is a rare privilege. He’s learning at a young age that work isn’t just a means to an end; it’s about creating value for others and reaping the rewards that follow. Our journey embodies the belief that success isn’t a solitary pursuit; it’s a collaborative dance with those we serve. Ultimately, our story is a testament to the transformative power of genuine connections, a truth that fuels our passion for what we do. As we forge ahead, we’re not just building a business; we’re crafting a legacy rooted in service, gratitude, and the enduring bonds we share with our clients — because their success is our success, and for that, we’re eternally thankful.

Chiro1Source journey 23 years ago, it wasn’t your

typical startup story. Imagine a double-wide trailer bursting with inventory, destined to cross the country — a humble beginning fueled by ambition and an unwavering commitment to service.

From day one, my dad had a mantra: Treat people like people, not numbers. No one likes being stuck on hold, right? He made sure a real person answered every call. It wasn’t just about selling chiropractic supplies but about creating connections. Fast forward to today, and my wife and I are proud torchbearers of that legacy. For seven years, we’ve upheld those early traditions. Handwritten notes accompany our shipments, a personal touch our clients appreciate. We still pick up the phones because we believe in the power of real conversations. Connecting with the chiropractic profession through various associations keeps us in the loop about industry happenings. Sure, we’re not perfect, but we make things right when they go wrong.

Why Does Our Body Suddenly Jerk Awake? AND OTHER FUN FACTS ABOUT OUR BODY Your body can do weird things you may have never been able to explain. Well, we’re here to fix that! Here are four fun facts about the human body you may have always wondered about. LACTOSE INTOLERANCE Lactose intolerance is the inability to fully digest lactose, a sugar in milk and dairy products, as a result of the LCT gene in the body mutating during infancy. The prevalence of lactose intolerance differs by ethnicity and is more common among people of Asian, African, and Native American descent, but the condition affects 65% of the global population. Lactose intolerance generally manifests in adolescents and young adults and varies in prevalence depending on the region in which a person lives.

Doing the right things consistently over time paves the path to success. Larry Johnson demonstrates this daily as a 14-year veteran employee with GFL Environmental. While many in the world pursue success for their own gain, Larry’s view isn’t inward-facing. Instead, he uses

his time to help others. As he diligently picks up waste as part of his 11-hour days, he lifts the spirits of people he meets.

ALL THE SMALL THINGS Josh has long seen the impactful difference

ONE-NOSTRIL BREATHING Most people do not breathe equally from both nostrils, a phenomenon known as the “nasal cycle.” One nostril is usually dominant for a period, ranging from 90 minutes to several hours, before switching to the other. This cycle is believed to be regulated by the autonomic nervous system and is a natural process most people aren’t consciously aware of. This is also why when you get sick, one nostril can get congested while the other works fine.

Larry makes in Farmville. “Larry has been picking up at our house and office for several years. He always has a smile on his face, always speaks, and always can be seen doing the ‘small’ things that aren’t so small,” Josh explains. “I try to get up early and go for a walk in the morning before a lot of the world wakes up, and I can’t count how many times I have seen Larry rolling a trash can for an elderly person. While others might say, ‘That isn’t in my job description,’ it’s not uncommon to see him going out of his way to pick up trash on the ground and help others in ways that aren’t in a job description.” SATISFACTION AND FRIENDSHIP While Larry has a remarkable eye for detail and following through on his work, he has become a true friend to the town of Farmville. Larry is satisfied when he thinks about the people he feels close to in the community.

BODY JERKS WHEN EXHAUSTED Have you ever tried to fall asleep only for your body to quickly jerk for no apparent reason? That’s called a hypnic jerk but is also known

by other names, like sleep start. The twitch typically happens during the early stages of sleep and is considered a benign myoclonic jerk, a form of involuntary muscle twitch. While the exact reason is not entirely understood, it is theorized that the jerk is a neural mechanism that helps the body transition from wakefulness to sleep. It may occur more often when you are exhausted or anxious.

“A big part of what I love about my job is meeting people and becoming friends with many of them. I like the act of serving, and I especially like helping the older people here. This is a special place I feel connected to. I even know the names of all the dogs,” he says with a smile. “I was raised in a small town in La Grange, North Carolina. Farmville has always given me that same warm feeling I had growing up.”

YOUR EARS KEEP GROWING While most parts of the human body reach a specific size and stop growing, ear cartilage grows slowly as people age. This phenomenon is due to specialized cartilage cells called chondrocytes that continuously produce new cartilage material. This ongoing growth is not usually noticeable daily, but it can become quite apparent when comparing photographs from different stages of a person’s life.

HUMILITY AND CONTRIBUTION Many in Farmville have noticed Larry’s above-and-beyond mindset and positive spark. In November, Larry learned he had been nominated for GFL Environmental Driver of the Year. As part of the nomination process, many locals wrote letters of recommendation.

POWER OF POSITIVITY JOHNSON BUILDS STRONG THROUGH SERVICE

Larry says, “I had a chance to read about 40 of them. I was taken aback as I looked through what people had to say. I said, ‘Wow, are they talking about me?’ There aren’t many people who compliment what someone in this line of work does. Reading all their kind notes and comments means a lot to me.” A DEEP BOND The bond between Larry and the town is one of mutual respect, admiration, and care. It is a friendship that just happens to involve waste collection. Farmville has touched Larry in many ways. One of the most meaningful to him occurred several years ago. “It was about five years ago when my son, Emanuel Fisher, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was 15 years old, and it was a very hard time,” Larry remembers. “But the town rallied around me. They prayed, supported me, and showed me how much they cared. It means a lot when people are in your corner.” Today, Larry feels grateful that Emanuel is cancer-free and leads a healthy life. In the process of getting to know Farmville, Larry has given back. When someone is sick or has suffered a loss in the family, Larry often makes extra visits to properties during the week.

“Somewhere down the line, it got personal between Farmville and me,” Larry says. “During my time with the company, I’ve been offered promotions. But I’ve had to turn them down. It’s like I work for Farmville. I don’t know when it got that way. When I started

with GFL, I worked in another town and then transferred to Farmville. When that happened, I immediately fell in love with the town. It’s important to me that the people here know I care about them,” he says. “You can’t always tell, but people are going through many things. I want to be that person that comes to them, brings them positivity, and uplifts them.” Away from work, Larry leads a busy life. He attends church on Sundays, looks forward to time with his family, bowls in a league each week, and cheers on his favorite sports teams, including the San Francisco 49ers. And if you’re looking for an example of someone who builds strong bonds with service, look no further because Larry Johnson is proof-positive of that ideal.

5 PROVEN STRATEGIES FOR COST-EFFECTIVE TRAVEL

Traveling can be an enriching and fulfilling experience, but it can also be costly. Many people dream of exploring new destinations, but financial constraints can be limiting. Fortunately, we’re here to share five practical tips to help you save money while enjoying your trip. PLAN AND BUDGET AHEAD. One of the most effective ways to save money is by planning and budgeting your trip in advance. Create a comprehensive budget that includes airfare, accommodation, food, transportation, and activities. Having a budget lets you track your expenses and helps you avoid overspending. You can also take advantage of early bird rates for flights and hotels. CANCEL UNNECESSARY SUBSCRIPTIONS. Before you travel, review your monthly subscriptions like gym memberships, streaming services, or magazines you won’t use while you’re away. Temporarily canceling these subscriptions can free up extra cash for your travel fund. LOOK FOR DISCOUNTS AND OFFERS. Keep an eye out for discounts, offers, and coupons that can help you save money on activities, dining, and shopping. Websites like Groupon

and LivingSocial offer various deals that could be useful during your trip. These websites often provide discounted

tickets to attractions, cheaper dining options, and even discounted rates for experiences like spa treatments or outdoor activities.

TRAVEL DURING OFF-PEAK SEASONS. Traveling during off-peak seasons will save you money on flights, hotels, and activities. You also benefit from less crowded destinations and shorter queues for popular tourist attractions. This is a win-win for travelers seeking a budget-friendly and less-crowded travel experience. USE LOCAL GROCERY STORES AND PACK SNACKS. Another way to save money while you travel is by shopping at local grocery stores for snacks and meals rather than eating out for every meal. This gives you a taste of local businesses and culture. Packing snacks can also help you avoid buying overpriced food at airports or touristy areas. By implementing these tips into your travel planning and experience, you can stretch your dollar further without compromising the quality of your trip. Happy traveling!
