During Drop Down Day, Year 7 took a trip to the Odeon Cinema in Kingston to see the film Chevalier. This was followed by games and a picnic back at school. Despite the train strike and an extremely busy train, they managed to make it to Kingston. Chevalier is a film based on a true story, set at the time of the French Revolution. It follows the life of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, the son of an enslaved mother and a French plantation owner father, who rose to prominence in French society as a composer. The film dealt with themes of race, gender and class, and Year 7 completed follow up activities during tutor time the following week. This allowed them to learn more about the writer, director and Joseph Bologne himself. They learnt a lot from his story and from the inspiration the makers had for the film.
