Waldegrave School End of Summer Magazine 2023

Welcome to the final edition of the school magazine which brings this very busy academic year to a close. It has been a very busy half term, full of trips and competitions. We were particularly delighted that we were able to have all the school out for Sports Day this year, with so many students taking part. In our end of term House Assembly, students in Seacole were particularly pleased to celebrate their first victory in the House Cup for many years. Other highlights include our Summer Festival. This celebration of our students’ various talents was organised by our Performing Arts department and centred around a Rock and Roll theme. Guests were treated to music covers ranging from Queen through to Coldplay (and also included a memorable tribute to the late Tina Turner). Various drama and dance pieces also embodied both the excellent high standards of performance as well as the considerable rehearsal hours dedicated to making the evening a success. I would like to thank everyone involved including the teachers, performers and the PTA who provided much needed refreshments. We also all enjoyed our Year 7 Culture Afternoon, led by our Year 9 students who were supported by Mrs Dhir and Mrs Browning, and a number of other staff. It was fantastic to see our Waldegrave Charter in action with students leading the way in celebrating their own cultural heritages with the support of many staff. Students led sessions on the Arabic Alphabet, life in Jordan, Azerbaijani food, Caribbean Dance, Canadian Dream Catcher making and how to play Aussie rules football. I would like to wish you all the very best summer and look forward to continuing to work with you all in the new academic year. - Ms Tongue
