A handful of English A Level students had the pleasure of attending the ‘Lit in Colour’ conference at Friend’s House, Euston. Year 12 students Emily and Miranda commented on the event: “Throughout the day, several speakers shared their own personal experiences and viewpoints on the role that race has played and continued to play in literature, spanning from Shakespeare to modern-day prose. These speakers included Jeffery Boakye, Iona Mandal and Jayda Davis, all with different backgrounds such as musical theatre and poetry. The initiative of the event helps young readers and writers to understand and appreciate how the importance of representation in literature is so crucial today. The enthusiasm and effective audience contribution enabled for an extremely engaging event, aiding upcoming coursework assignments for Year 13 English.”
