MEET YOUR FUTURE VOLUNTEER LEADERS Jose Covarrubias General Manager, Wholesum Farms

Jose is General Manager at Wholesum Farms in Amado, Ariz., a grower of greenhouse tomatoes. In this position, he oversees all activities related to the farm. Jose studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Instituto Tecnologico de Nogales, International Business at Universidad del Valle de Mexico, and Logistics, Materials, and Supply Chain Management at Cochise College. He participated in PMA’s Emerging Leaders Program and currently serves as a member of IFPA’s Organic Committee.

WORK LIFE Ag industry has many challenges that keep us entertained and engaged. One particular challenge I’m very passionate about is the people, helping with their continuous growth by sharing, coaching and empowering them to reach new heights. At Wholesum “People on the move” is a very important value.

PARTNER LIFE I was so lucky to find a great girl and even luckier that she allows me to walk this life by her side. I’m her number one fan, a great combination of strength, wisdom and kindness. I looked hard and found only one defect: she invests her talent on a different industry LOL, but we can’t deny she is gorgeous too!!!

DAD LIFE I have three beautiful kids, Jose 16, Elisa 14 and Alina 3. All of them are amazing, I’m still learning everyday about how to be a dad, but it is the best feeling ever, I’m so proud of them.

ADVENTURE LIFE I enjoy a wide variety of things like jumping into my mountain bike and riding on a beautiful Arizona trail with my buddies, or enjoying my family on a vacation trip, concert or a sports event, even an occasional driving in a sand drag race will do it for me.

FAMILY LIFE I have a big family and that’s a blessing, we get together at grandpa’s quite often and I really love that. Special thanks to my parents’ guidance, advise and patience, I know it was not easy and I really appreciate it.

BASKETBALL LIFE The ball is my best way of meditating and resetting; the court is that one place I can disconnect from the world for a bit. I love this picture, not only showcases the last tournament I won with my brothers, but it also shows Daddy’s number one fan on the side!

Jose is one of nine individuals selected to be in Class VII of the Future Volunteer Leaders, a program that guides the next generation of leaders within Western Growers member companies interested in becoming more informed and effective advocates for the fresh produce industry.
