The various images on the cover of issue 71 are design con- cepts that were created as part of the 2025 Fiji edition of the Land Art Generator Initiative [LAGI] design competi- tion, which encourages renewable energy and sustain- ability innovation through creative art installations. Masdar City has sponsored and collaborated with LAGI since its inception in 2008.

يكونـــوا حاضريـــن فيهـــا بوعـــي كامـــل، ومدركيـــن لـــكل تفاصيلهـــا. فهـــذا الإدراك هــو ســر الحيــاة الطويلــة المليئــة بالرضــا، مهمــا قُــدِّر لنــا أن نعيــش. لا أحــد يعلــم كـــم بقـــي لـــه مـــن أيـــام، ومـــع ذلـــك، نمتلـــك ســـلطة كبيـــرة علـــى اختيـــار الطريقـــة التـــي نعيـــش فيهـــا هـــذا الوقـــت. نســـتطيع أن نختـــار مـــا نطالـــع ونقـــرأ، وننتقـــي المعلومـــات التـــي تغـــذّي عقولنـــا، ومـــع التدريـــب والصبـــر والانضبـــاط، نملـــك الحريّـــة فـــي تشـــكيل جـــودة أفكارنـــا وتجربـــة حياتنـــا. يبحـــر العـــدد الأخيـــر مـــن شـــواطئ فـــي مواضيـــع كثيـــرة، غيـــر أن أكثـــر مـــا يثيـــر الشــغف هــو المقــال المكــرّس لحــدث طــال انتظــاره، وهــو افتتــاح متحــف زايــد الوطنـي نهايـة هـذا العـام. كان الشـيخ زايـد بـن سـلطان آل نهيـان قائـدا ذا رؤيـة هادئــة وعميقــة، غيّــرت ملامــح الإمــارات وحملتهــا نحــو مســتقبل مشــرق؛ رجــلا بصفـــات اســـتثنائيّة، لـــم يكتـــف بتصـــوّر مـــا يريـــد لشـــعبه، بـــل جعـــل مـــن كلماتـــه أفعــالا حملــت دولــة الإمــارات علــى أجنحــة التغييــر بســرعة لا ســابق لهــا، وثقــة راســـخة لا حـــدود لهـــا. كان إنســـانًا فـــذًّا، تجـــاوزت أعمالـــه كل الحـــدود العرقيّـــة والإثنيّـــة، ودائمـــا مـــا كان يدعـــو شـــعبه لحمـــل لـــواء المســـؤوليّة الوطنيّـــة فـــي قلوبهــــــــم وأفعالهـــم. وســـيكون هـــذا الصـــرح العظيـــم بوابـــة يُطـــل منهـــا العالـــم بأسـره علـى إرث الشيــــــخ زايــــــد، وجوهـــــــرة التـــــــاج الثقافـي والحضـــــــاري فـي حـــي الســـعديّات. قبـــل ثلاثيـــن عامـــاً، كانـــت أبوظبـــي شـــبه خاليـــة مـــن أي منصّـــة ترضـــي شـــغف عشـــاق الفـــن والموســـيقى والثقافـــة، لكـــن ســـرعان مـــا تحوّلـــت العاصمـــة إلـــى مركـــز ثقافـــي نابـــض بالتنــــــــوّع، يســـير بخطـــى ثابتـــة ليصبـــح المدينـــة الرائـــدة فــي الشــرق الأوســط للثقافــة والفنــون. لطالمــا امتلكــت أبوظبــي إرادة جماعيّــة لصــون تراثهــا والتعبيــر عنــه وتكريمــه، مــع الحــرص علــى حفــظ ذاكــرة الماضــي لحمايــة المســتقبل. وســتكون إضافــة متحــف زايــد الوطنــي إلــى مشــهد المدينــة الثقافـــي تأكيـــدا علـــى هـــذا الإرث الجميـــل، وتكريمـــا لمـــا تركـــه الشـــيخ زايـــد للأجيـــال القادمـــة. وكمـــا فـــي كل عـــدد مـــن شـــواطئ، نتوجّـــه بالشـــكر لكـــم، قرّاءَنـــا الأعـــزاء، علـــى دعمكـــم ووفائكـــم الدائـــم. نتطلّـــع إلـــى تقديـــم عـــدد الشـــتاء منتصـــف ديســـمبر، وحتــى ذلــك الحيــن، نتمنّــى لكــم الصحّــة والســعادة والازدهــار، وقــراءة ممتعــة!

هـــا هـــو الخريـــف يطـــرق أبوابنـــا بأوراقـــه الذهبيّـــة ونســـائمه الرقيقـــة، معلنـــا عـــن . فـي عالـم الطبيعـة، لطالمـا كان الخريـف رمـزا للتغييـر 2025 اقتـراب وداع عـام والتجــدّد والنمــوّ، وباعتبارنــا جــزءًا مــن هــذا العالــم، يصبــح هــذا التغييــر جــزءًا مـــن كينونتنـــا، وحتّـــى الثابـــت الوحيـــد فـــي حياتنـــا. ومـــع وقوفنـــا علـــى أعتـــاب فصـل جديـد يحملنـا نحـو المسـتقبل، لدينـا فرصـة مثاليـة لنوقـف عقـارب الزمـن لبرهـــةٍ، ونتأمّـــل بمـــا نعتبـــره غاليـــا ومهمّـــاً. فلنجعـــل مـــن هـــذا الوقـــت مناســـبة للانعتـاق مـن كل الأشـياء العقيمـة التـي لا تسـمو بوجودنـا أو وجـود مـن حولنـا، لننفــض عــن أنفســنا غبــار الطاقــة الســلبيّة، ونفســح المجــال أمــام طاقــة يزدهــر فيهــا تــوازن الــروح ونقــاء الوجــدان. مهمــا حاولنــا غــض الطــرف أو النــأي بالنفــس عمــا يحــدث فــي عالمنــا، يبقــى مــن الصعــب تجاهــل الأهــوال والصعــاب التــي ترخــي بظلالهــا الثقيلــة علــى وجودنــا شـيئا فشـيئاً، وتلـف حـول قلوبنـا خيطـا مـن الخـوف والقلـق، يعتصـر فـي لحظـة واحــدة مــا تبقّــى فيهــا مــن إيمــان وأمــل بمســتقبل أفضــل. والأمــر الأصعــب أن نعــزل أنفســنا عــن عالمنــا الافتراضــيّ، الــذي نعيــش وقائعــه مــن خــلال شاشــاتنا وصفحـات التواصـل الاجتماعـيّ، التـي تشـتّت مـا تبقّــى مـن تركيزنـا بوابـل مـن الأخبــار الســطحيّة فــي أحســن الأحــوال، والمضلّلــة فــي أســوئها. وفـــي خضـــم كل تلـــك الأفـــكار المتزاحمـــة، تبقـــى الســـعادة الهـــدف الأغلـــى الـــذي نصبـــو إلـــى تحقيقـــه لنجعـــل لحياتنـــا معنـــىً، ولكـــن الســـعادة معضلـــة مُحيّـــرة، فهــي صعبــة المنــال تــارةً، وســريعة الأفــول تــارة أخــرى، وتتعــدّد معانيهــا بتعــدّد البشـــر وقناعاتهـــم. مهمـــا اختلفـــت تعاريـــف الســـعادة، تبقـــى فـــي جوهرهـــا ذلـــك الشـعور الدافـئ بالتفـاؤل الـذي يبـث جرعـات مـن الراحـة والفـرح والرضـى فـي عيـــن الـــروح والعقـــل. نعيــش اليــوم فــي مجتمــع غالبــا مــا يــرى الســعادة كناتــج ثانــوي للحيــاة، كغايــة تلـوح فـي الأفـق، أو كشـيء لا بـد مـن امتلاكـه واكتنـازه. ولكـن بتأمّــل الطبيعـة الأمّ، وفيــض عطائهــا الــذي لا ينضــب، نكتشــف أن الســعادة تكمــن فــي التجــارب العميقـــة التـــي تحثّنـــا علـــى العطـــاء مثلهـــا، وتفتـــح أمامنـــا أبـــواب الرضـــا، وربّمـــا تدعونــا إلــى لحظــة وعــي تتكشّــف فيهــا أســرار الوجــود. مــن أصعــب التحدّيــات علــى كثيــر مــن البشــر أن يعيشــوا اللحظــة كمــا هــي، أن

information we choose to consume and read on a daily basis, and with practice, discipline…and an abundance of patience, we do have autonomy over the quality of our thoughts. The latest edition of Shawati’ touches on many topics, but what we [and everyone] are most excited about is the opening of the long anticipated arrival of Zayed National Museum at the end of this year. The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was a visionary leader of quiet greatness. He was a man of extraordinary attributes who not only had a clear vision of what he wished to achieve for his people, but who also led by example, putting words into action to rapidly transform the UAE. An outstanding humanitarian, whose efforts have surpassed all barriers of ethnic and racial considerations, he always encouraged his people to participate in the sharing of national responsibilities. This magnificent structure is sure to become the crowning glory to further adorn Saadiyat’s Island’s cultural district. Thirty years ago, there was almost nothing available in Abu Dhabi for lovers of art, music and culture, but today, in a relatively short span of time the capital Emirate has transfomed itself into a multifaceted cultural hub, fast becoming the Middle East’s foremost city of culture. Abu Dhabi has always had the collective will to preserve, express and honour its own heritage and traditions, with a focus on preserving the past to protect the future. And the latest addition of Zayed National Museum will become a fitting tribute to commemorate and honour the beautiful legacy left behind by Sheikh Zayed. As with every issue of Shawati’ , we wish to thank you - our dear readers for your continued support and loyalty. The fall season has finally arrived and the last quarter of 2025 is rapidly approaching. In nature, autumn is a time associated with transformation, change and growth; as human beings the only constant in life is change . Poised at a [somewhat] precarious junction of the future, this is a perfect time to pause and consider what we give value to, and what we give importance to in our lives. It is an ideal time to let go of all the ‘stuff’ that doesn’t work, doesn’t honour ourselves, or the community around us. It’s an ideal time to rid oursleves of toxic energy and an opportune time to seek equilibrium. Given the current state of the world, it’s easy to allow fear and anxiety to seep into every crevice of our existence, over time chipping away at our faith and hope for a better future. And it’s even easier to get distracted by the endless bombardment of social media and news platforms that are often misleading and superficial. Happiness seems to be the end goal for everything in life, yet happiness is a paradox, it is elusive and often times, it is fleeting. There isn’t one single “true” definition of happiness, but it is generally understood as a positive emotional state characterised by feelings such as contentment, joy, and overall life satisfaction. We live in a society where happiness is often seen as a bi-product of life, often pursued as a goal, as though it were a substance to be acquired and kept. But ‘mother earth’ is generous and abundant in giving and offers experiences that are deep and meaningful, resulting in greater contentment or even epiphany. What is incredibly challenging for most human beings is to live in the moment – to be intentionally ‘present’ in the present . This state of awareness is essential to living the longest, best quality life possible with whatever time we’ve got. None of us know how much time we have, but, interestingly, we do actually have a lot of control over how we experience the time we are blessed to live. For instance, we can control the

في S ، تولّـــت شـــيماء راشـــد الســـويدي منصـــب المديـــر التنفيـــذي لقطـــاع 2025 فـــي شـــهر إبريـــل الفنـون والتّصميـم والآداب فـي هيئـة الثّقافـة والفنـون فـي دُبـي (دُبـي للثّقافـة)، حاملـة معهـا خبــرة مهنيّــة عميقــةً، تشــكّلت عبــر ســنوات مــن العمــل فــي مفاصــل التّواصــل الاســتراتيجي والحــراك الثقافــي النّشــط. قبــل أن تقــود هــذا القطــاع الحيــوي مــن موقــع القــرار، كانــت الســويدي إحــدى الأصــوات المحوريّــة فــي تشــكيل ســرديّة دُبــي المؤسّســية، مــن خــال المناصــب التــي شــغلتها فــي عــدد مــن المؤسّســات بدُبــيّ، إلــى جانــب عضويتهــا فــي شــبكة دُبــي للدبلوماســية الإعاميــة والاتصـال التابعـة للمكتـب الإعامـي لحكومـة دُبـيّ، والشـبكة العامـة لاتصـال الحكومـي فـي المجلــس التنفيــذي لإمــارة دُبــيّ، مــا منحهــا الفرصــة لأداء دورا أساســيا فــي تقديــم صــورة مشــرقة عــن دُبــيّ. وبفضــل خبرتهــا فــي مجالَــي التّســويق الثقافــي وفــن الحكايــة، تُســهم الســويدي فــي تعزيــز مكانــة دُبــي مركــزا عالميــا للإبــداع والابتــكار. واليــوم، تُعيــد توجيــه البوصلــة إلــى الداخــل، وتتســلّم دفّــة صياغــة العديــد مــن المشــاريع والمبــادرات الهادفــة إلــى تمكيــن ودعــم أصحــاب المواهــب المحليّــة، واســتثمار طاقاتهــا الإبداعيّــة. ، لـم تكـن “دُبـي للثّقافـة” مجرّد جهـة حكوميّة تُعنى بالشـأن الثقافيّ، 2008 منـذ تأسيسـها عـام بـل حارسـة لذاكـرة المدينـة، وعينـا تفتّـش دومـا عـن مسـارات جديـدة للإبداع والنمـو الثقافيّ. وتديـر الهيئـة اليـوم مواقـع أثريّـة وتراثيّـة، ومكتبـات عامّـة، ومتاحـف، ومركـز الجليلـة لثقافـة الطفـل، ولكـن الأهـم مـن ذلـك، أن “دُبـي للثّقافـة” تنظّـم أبـرز الفعاليّـات الثقافيّـة فـي الإمـارة، مثـل “مهرجـان سـكّة للفنـون والتّصميـم” و“بينالـي دُبـي للخـطّ” و“مهرجـان دُبـي للفنـون الأدائيـة الشـبابية”، وتدعـم فعاليـات عالميّـة كبـرى مثـل “آرت دُبيّ” و“أسـبوع دُبـي للتّصميم” وغيرهـا مـن الفعاليّـات التـي تحوّلت إلى منصّات أساسـيّة لتمكيـن ودعم الفنّانين والمصمّمين الناشـئين فـي دولـة الإمـارات وتسـليط الضـوء علـى إبداعاتهـم. وتتمثّــل مهمّــة “دُبـي للثّقافـة” فـي إثـراء المشـهد الثقافـي بشـكل لا يقـف عنـد حـد التّنظيـم والرّعايــة، بــل يتّســع ليشــمل صياغــة رؤيــة ثقافيّــة متكاملــة تهــدف إلــى تعزيــز مكانــة دُبــي مركــزا عالميــا للثقافــة، حاضنــة للإبــداع، وملتقــى للمواهــب، كمــا تعمــل علــى فتــح مســارات للحــوار بيــن الثقافــات، وتدعــم الاقتصــاد الإبداعــي عبــر مبــادرات شــاملة ومســتدامةٍ، تضــع الإنســان والمجتمــع فــي قلــب المعادلــة. Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi assumed the role of CEO of the Arts, Design, and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture and Arts Authority [Dubai Culture] in April 2025. Her appointment follows a distinguished career in strate- gic communications and cultural advocacy, including senior roles within different entities in Dubai as well as memberships in the Dubai Media Diplomacy and Communication Network in the Government of Dubai Media Office and a member of the General Network of Government Communication in The Executive Council of Dubai. Her expertise in marketing and storytelling has been instrumental in positioning Dubai as a creative centre of global significance and is now shaping how the emirate invests in and supports its homegrown talent. Dubai Culture was established in 2008 and serves as the city’s custodian of heritage and creative development. It operates heritage and archaeological sites, public li- braries, museums and Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Chil- dren, while spearheading major events and festivals such as Sikka Art & Design Festival, Dubai Calligraphy Biennale, and Dubai Youth Performing Arts Festival, as well as supporting large-scale events such as Art Dubai and Dubai Design Week, among others, all of which are all key platforms for emerging UAE-based artists and designers. The Authority defines its mission as enrich- ing the cultural landscape by building bridges between past and future, fostering dialogue across cultures, and empowering the creative economy through inclusive, sustainable initiatives. In this in-depth interview, Al Suwaidi outlines her early priorities: listening to creative practitioners and her team, mapping the current state of the sector, and working to make arts, design, and literature accessible to all residents. She articulates a vision where local talent can flourish through infrastructure, mentorship and international exposure, which is anchored in Dubai’s creative identity yet remains open to global exchange. The discussion covers key strategic programmes in- cluding the Design Sector Strategy 2033, the expanded Dubai Cultural Grant, and community initiatives such as Ramadan Heroes and the School of Life . needs attention. My commitment is to nurture local skills and make the arts, design, and literature accessible to as many people as possible. That means supporting local artists at every stage of their journey and finding new ways for their work to be seen, both here in Dubai and beyond. Strengthening Dubai’s position as a global centre for culture, an incubator for creativity, and a thriving hub for talent remains a guiding principle. By encouraging exchange and building international partnerships, we aim to keep the city open to new ideas and creative voices from all backgrounds. With your strong background in marketing and communications, how does this inform your leader- ship style and approach to cultur- al strategy? My background in marketing and com- munications has shaped how I lead and set strategic direction for Dubai Culture. In earlier years, I focused on sharing our story, highlighting our mission and milestones. Now, I’m contributing to the Authority’s efforts of positioning Dubai as a vibrant cre- ative hub.

ومــن جهــة أخــرى، تُتيــح فعاليّــات ضخمــة مثــل “مهرجــان ســكّة للفنــون والتّصميــم”، إلــى جانــب الـورش المسـتمرّة ومبـادرات الفـن فـي الأماكن العامة التـي تُقـام علـى مـدار السّــنة، الفرصـة لـكل مـن يحمـل فكـرة أو شـغفاً، سـواء أكان فنّانـا متمرّسـا أو مبتدئـاً، ليخطــو خطواتــه الأولــى ويضيــف لمســته الخاصّــة. نفتــح المنصّــات للجميــع، لأنّنــا نؤمــن بــأن المشــاركة هــي مــا يصنــع الانتمــاء، وأن المدينــة تصبــح “بيتــاً” حيــن يــرى ســكّانها أنفســهم فيهــا، لا كمتفرّجيــن، بــل أُطلقــت مؤخّــرا “اســتراتيجيّة قطــاع التّصميــم مركــزا عالميّــا ّ ”، بهــدف ترســيخ مكانــة دُبــي 2033 للتميّــز فــي التّصميــم، مــن خــال أهــداف تشــمل التّعليــم، ودعــم الشّــركات المحليّــة، واســتضافة الفعاليّــات الدوليّــة. كيــف تريــن تأثيــر هــذه الاسـتراتيجيّة علـى الاقتصـاد الإبداعـي فـي دُبـيّ؟ تُمثّــل هــذه الاســتراتيجيّة تحــوّلا حقيقيّــا فــي الطريقــة التــي ننظــر بهــا إلــى التّصميــم كمحــرّك اقتصــادي فعّــال. لدينــا فعــا قاعــدة متينــة ننطلــق منهــا؛ فدُبــي مُعتــرف بهــا كأوّل مدينــة مبدعــة فــي التّصميــم فــي منطقــة الشــرق الأوســط وشــمال إفريقيــا، ضمــن شــبكة اليونســكو للمــدن المبدعــة. نحــن لا نبــدأ مــن الصّفــر، بــل نرتقــي مــن موقــع قــوّةٍ، مــع أهــداف واضحــة وقابلــة للقيــاس. كصنّــاع محتــوى وهويــة. المبادرات الاستراتيجيّة أوّلاً، الاســتراتيجيّة توسّــع دائــرة التّعليــم، عبــر رفــع ، %20 معــدّلات الالتحــاق ببرامــج التّصميــم بنســبة مـا يعنـي دخـول المزيـد مـن المواهـب الصّاعـدة إلـى الفصــول الدراســيّة، وهــذا يُعــد اســتثمارا طويــل

النّــاس. وهــذه هــي البوصلــة التــي أعــود إليهــا كل يــوم. عامــا للمجتمــع، 2025 مــع إعــان أُعيــد تســليط الضّــوء علــى التّماســك الاجتماعــي والهويّــة الجماعيّــة. كيــف للثّقافــة” مبادراتهــا فــي ّ تُنسّــق “دُبــي مجـالات الفنـون والتّصميـم والآداب مـع هــذا التوجّــه الوطنــي لتعزيــز المشــاركة الثقافيّــة وترسـيخ الشـعور بالانتمـاء فـي مجتمــع متنــوّع؟ روح “يــدا بيــد”، التــي يُجسّــدها عــام المجتمــع، هــي النقطــة المرجعيــة التــي توجّــه كثيــرا مــن عملنــا هــذا العــام. نحــن لا نعمـل علـى المشـاريع مـن أجـل المجتمـع فحسـب، بـل معـه. نبـدأ دائمـا مـن الميـدان، بالتّعــاون مــع الأحيــاء، والمــدارس، والشــركاء الثقافيّيــن، لنصمّــم البرامــج بشــكل مشــترك يُعبّــر عــن تنــوّع الأصــوات والـرّؤى. ومـن أبـرز الأمثلـة علـى ذلك حملة “إرث دُبــيّ” التــي أطلقهــا ســمو الشــيخ حمــدان بــن محمــد بــن راشــد آل مكتــوم، ولــي عهــد دُبــيّ، نائــب رئيــس مجلــس الــوزراء، وزيــر الدّفــاع، ورئيــس المجلــس التنفيـذي لإمـارة دُبـيّ. تجمـع هـذه الحملـة قصصـا وصـورا وذكريـات شـخصيّة توثّــق تحــوّل دُبــي كمــا عاشــه النّــاس بأنفســهم. مــا نــراه اليــوم فــي المعــارض والقــراءات والمجسّــمات الفنيّــة فــي المســاحات العامّــة، مــا هــو إلا امتــداد لتلــك الرّوايــات التــي تُعيــد للنّــاس إحساســهم بأنّهــم جــزء حــي مــن حكايــة دُبــي الكبــرى.

وهــذا يعنــي دعــم الفنّانيــن المحليّيــن فــي كل مرحلــة مــن رحلتهــم، وإيجــاد ســبل جديــدة لعــرض أعمالهــم، ســواء هنــا فــي دُبــي أو خارجهــا. وتظــل رؤيتنــا الأساســيّة هــي ترســيخ مكانـة دُبـي مركزا عالميّــا للثّقافة، وحاضنة للإبــداع، وملتقــى للمواهــب. ومــن خــال تشــجيع التّبــادل الثقافــي وبنــاء شــراكات دوليّــة قويّــةٍ، نسـعى دائمـا إلـى المحافظـة علــى بقــاء المدينــة منفتحــة علــى الأفــكار الجديـدة والأصـوات الإبداعيّــة مـن جميـع أنحــاء العالــم. تتمتّعيــن بخلفيــة راســخة فــي التســويق والاتّصـال؛ كيـف تؤثّــر هـذه التجربـة فـي أســلوبك القيــاديّ، ونهجــك فــي صياغــة الاســتراتيجيّة الثقافيّــة؟ تركت تجربتي في عالم التسويق والاتّصال بصمتها العميقة في طريقتي في القيادة، وفي كيفيّة رسم التوجّه الاستراتيجي لـ “دُبي للثّقافة”. في مراحل سابقةٍ، كان تركيزي منصبّا على رواية قصّتنا: تسليط الضّوء على رسالتنا، وعلى محطّاتنا المفصليّة. أمّا اليوم، فأنا أسهم في حشد جهود الهيئة من أجل تعزيز موقع دُبي مركزا للإبداع والابتكار. مــا تعلّمتــه خــال تلــك الســنوات، هــو أن النّــاس لا يتفاعلــون مــع الرســائل المصمّمــة بعنايــةٍ، بقــدر مــا يســتجيبون لمــا هــو صــادق وحقيقــيّ. ولهــذا، أحــرص دائمــا علــى قضــاء الوقــت مــع الفنّانيــن، والحرفيّيــن، والمؤسّســات الإبداعيّــة؛ أسـتمع إلـى حكاياتهـم، وأفهـم مـا يُلهمهـم، وأصغــي إلــى مــا يواجهونــه مــن تحدّيــات. هـذه التّفاصيـل الإنسـانيّة ليسـت هامشـيّة، بـل هـي مـا يُصـوّغ قراراتنـا، ويُبقـي عملنـا مرتبطــا بالنّــاس وبمحيطنــا. جانــب آخــر مهــم فــي تجربتــي هــو قــوّة الســرد البصــريّ؛ فالتصميــم برأيــي لغــة كاملــة، قــادرة علــى مامســة العاطفــة، واســتدعاء الذّاكــرة، وإلهــام الطمــوح... أحيانــا فــي لحظــة واحــدة فقــط. ومن خال عملي الطويل في بناء العامات التجاريّة على اختاف أنواعها، أدركت أن الثّبات على المبادئ أمر مهمّ، ولكن القدرة على التكيّف هي المفتاح. فالفنون لا تعرف الجمود، ونحن كذلك. ولكن التحدّي الحقيقي يكمن في الحفاظ على هذا التّوازن: أن نظـــــل أوفياء لقيمنـــــــا الجوهريّــــــــة، ونحافـــــــــظ علــــى ثوابتنــــــا، مـــــن دون أن ننفصل عن حركة المجتمع وما يدور من حولنا في العالم. وفــي نهايــة المطــاف، ســواء كنّــا نتحــدّث عــن التّســويق أو الثّقافــة، فــإن القيــادة النّاجحــة لا تُقــاس بالكلمــات، بــل بالأفعــال التــي تُحــدث فرقــا حقيقيّــا فــي حيــاة

الأمـد فـي العقـول. كمـا أنّنـا نوفّــر اسـتوديوهات عمـل شركـــــة ناشئـــــــة، مـا 500 مشتركـــــة، وتمويـا أوّليـا لــ يمنـــــــح الخرّيجيــن طريقـــــــــا مباشــــــرا مــــــن الفكـــــــرة إلــى السّــوق، مــن دون الحاجــة إلــى مغــادرة المدينــة للنمــو أو التوسّــع. ثانيـاً، نُكثّــف نقـاط التّاقـي مـع العالـم، عبـر اسـتضافة ماييــن 4 فعاليّــة دوليّــةٍ، واســتقطاب 100 أكثــر مــن زائــر ســنويّاً، مــا يخلــق بيئــة نابضــة يتفاعــل فيهــا المصمّمــون المحليّــون مــع نظرائهــم العالميّيــن، والمشــترين، والمهتمّيــن مــن كل أقطــاب العالــم. هــذا الحــراك لا يُغــذّي التّصميــم فحســـــــب، بــل ينعكــــــــس علــــــــــــى قطاعــات موازيـــــــة مثــل الأزيــاء، والهندســة المعماريّــة، وابتــكار المنتجــات، ويفتـــــــــــح فـــــــرص عمــــــــــــل تتجـــــــــاوز الإطـــــــار الثقافـــــــي التقليــديّ. وثالثــاً، نحــرص علــى توفيــر الدّعــم فــي اللّحظــات الحاســمة. فعلــى ســبيل المثــال، ســنواصل رعايــة “أســبوع دُبــي للتّصميــم” ضمــن برنامــج “منحــة دُبــي الثقافيّــة”، مــا يتيــح للمصمّميــن الإماراتيّيــن الصّاعديــن تغطيــة تكاليــف مشــاركتهم. هــذا يعنــي ببســاطةٍ، أن طالبــا جامعيّــا يمكنــه ابتــكار نمــوذج أوّلــي، والحصــول علــى التّوجيــه والإرشــاد، وعــرض عملـه النهائـي أمـام الإعـام الدولـيّ، وكل ذلـك ضمـن منظومــة واحــدة متكاملــة. كيـف تعمليـن علـى بنـاء منظومـة ثقافيّــة مسـتدامة للفنّانيــن والكتّــاب فــي دُبــيّ؟ وكيــف تنســجم هــذه الجهــود مــع رؤيتــك الأوســع للرّيــادة الثقافيّــة؟ بالنّسـبة لـي، بنـاء منظومـة ثقافيّــة مسـتدامة لا يعنـي فقــط توفيــر الدّعــم، بــل توفيــر الوقــت، والمــوارد، والمســاحة التــي يحتاجهــا المبــدع لينمــو بثقــة. ونتطلــع إلــى منــح الفنّــان أو الكاتــب البنيــة المهنيّــة

A good example is the city- wide Erth Dubai campaign launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, which collects personal sto- ries, photographs, and objects that chart the emirate’s evolution. Those narratives feed directly into exhibi- tions,readings, and outdoor installa- tions, helping residents see their own lives woven into Dubai’s wider story. Flagship gatherings such as the Sikka Art & Design Festival, along with year- round workshops and public art com- missions, invite everyone - from first- time creators to seasoned practitioners - to add their perspective. By opening these platforms, we deepen participa- tion across arts, design, and literature, and strengthen the sense of belonging that makes a city feel like home. STRATEGIC INITIATIVES The newly launched Design Sec- tor Strategy 2033 aims to position Dubai as a global hub for design ex- cellence, with goals ranging from expanding design education to sup- porting local enterprises and host- ing international events. How do you envision its impact on Dubai’s creative economy?

I’ve found that people respond most when they sense something real. It’s why I spend time with artists, makers and artistic institutions - listening to their stories, understanding what drives them, and paying attention to the obstacles they face. Their experiences shape the choices we make and keep our work connect- ed to the world around us. Visual storytelling has also become central to how we communicate our vision. Design is a powerful language - it speaks to emotion, connects us to heritage, and inspires ambition, often all at once. My experience in building brands has taught me that while consistency is important, being able to adapt is even more critical. The arts don’t stand still, and neither can we. But the real trick is in maintaining the balance of sticking to our core values and keeping our work in step with the community and with what’s happening in the wider world. Ultimately, effective guidance - whether in marketing or the arts - comes down to practical actions that im- prove people’s lives. That principle continues to direct my work each day. The designation of 2025 as the Year of Community places renewed emphasis on social cohesion and collective identity. How is Dubai Culture aligning its initiatives, across arts, design, and literature, with this national theme to deepen cultural participation across its diverse community and also instil a sense of belonging? The ‘Hand in Hand’ spirit behind the Year of Community guides much of our work. بمشـاهدة الأعمـال، بـل فهمـوا الرّؤيـة خلـف كل عمــل فنّــي، وشــعروا بأنّهــم جــزء مــن القصّــة. هــذه النّظــرة التــي تضــع المبــدع أوّلاً، ســتظل فــي صميــم مــا نؤمــن بــه. فـي النّسـخ المقبلـة، أعتـزم البنـاء علـى مـا أثبـت فعاليّتـه. فـي الموقـع نفسـه، سـنُعمّق التّجربــة التفاعليّــة مــن خــال فعاليّــات خاصّــة، كتجربــة الواقــع المعــزّز التــي ، والتي أثبتت REALIITY House قدّمتها أن التقنيّة، حين تكون رشـيقة ومدروسـة، لا تطغـى علـى المـكان، بـل تُغنـي الحـواسّ. سـنطوّر هـذا التوجّــه ونُضيـف طبقـات مـن التّفسـير البصـري حيـن تكـون مفيـدةً، دون المســاس بالحضــور الفيزيائــي للعمــل. أمّــا خـارج فتـرة المهرجـان، فسـتواصل منصّــة “ســكّة” دورهــا كجســر حــي بيــن الجمهــور والفنّانيـن، مـن خـال تسـليط الضّــوء علـى كواليــس الأعمــال، وتأمّــات الفنّانيــن، وانطباعـات الـزوّار، لنحـوّل المهرجـان إلـى حــوار مســتمر يُغــذّي الذّاكــرة الثقافيّــة للمدينــة علــى مــدار العــام. حقّقـت مبـادرة “أبطـال رمضـان” تحـت قيادتـك نجاحـا لافتاً، وحازت على جوائز عدّة على مسـتوى المنطقة لابتكارها في مجـال المسـؤوليّة المجتمعيّـة والتّواصـل الرقمـيّ. كيـف تبنيـن علـى هـذا الإرث اليـوم لتشـكيل برامـج ثقافيّـة مسـتقبليّة تتمحـور حـول المجتمـع؟ مــا علّمتنــا إيّــاه تجربــة “أبطــال رمضــان” هـو أن أي برنامـج، كـي ينجـح بحـقّ، يجـب أن يبــدأ مــن احتياجــات النّــاس الحقيقيّــة، وأن يُبنـى ليبقـى. هـذا المبـدأ أصبـح حجـر الأســاس لــكل مبــــــادرة مجتمعيّــة نعمــل عليهــا اليـــــــوم. نبــدأ دائمـــــــــــا بالإنصــــــــات لمـن نريـد خدمتهـم، ثـم نُصمّــم كل خطـوة

Dubai Culture’s ten-year, AED 180 million Dubai Cul- tural Grant delivers that steady backing. By covering research, production, travel, and exhibition costs, the fund lets creatives move from the studio to the world stage with confidence. It sent ten Emirati artists to the Venice Biennale for hands-on workshops, took fifteen designers to Paris to unveil the ‘UAE Design Oasis’ col- lection at Maison&Objet, supported architects present- ing heritage-led ideas at Expo 2025 Osaka, and helped our youth orchestra earn a standing ovation at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Training is equally important. Campus Art Dubai, for example, pairs local practitioners with international mentors and concludes with new work on show dur- ing Art Dubai. Alumni move on to regional prizes and paid commissions, proving the course functions as a launchpad rather than a classroom. Authors follow a similar path through the ‘Exporting Local Literary Talent’ programme, which provides Emirati and UAE- based authors the opportunity to be part of key book fairs and platforms globally such as Edinburgh, Frank- furt and Riyadh, putting their voices in front of editors, agents, and readers. PROJECTS & PROGRAMMES The Sikka Art and Design Festival has become a cornerstone of Dubai Culture’s calendar. Given your previous role in enhancing Dubai Culture’s digital presence - earning accolades such as the Gold Stevie Award for Most Innovative Instagram Feed for ‘Creative Dubai’ and a Bronze for the Sikka Platform - how do you plan to integrate your expertise in digital engagement and storytelling into the future iterations of Sikka? When we won gold for Most Innovative Instagram Feed and the Sikka Platform picked up bronze, the judges praised one thing above all: visitors saw the festival

The Design Sector Strategy 2033 represents a shift in how we think about design as an economic driver. We already have a solid base, and Dubai is even recognised by UNESCO as the region’s first City of Design under the Creative Cities Network. The new strategy simply builds on it with clear, measurable targets. First, it widens the training pipeline. Boosting enrol- ment in design programmes by 20 per cent draws more emerging creators into classrooms. Shared studios and seed funding for 500 start-ups provide those graduates with an immediate path from idea to market, without requiring them to leave the city to scale. Second, it multiplies global touchpoints. Hosting 100- plus international gatherings and drawing four million visitors gives local practitioners steady exposure to peers and buyers across the globe. That flow of ideas and commerce strengthens adjacent sectors, such as fashion, architecture, and product innovation, creating jobs that extend well beyond the traditional cultural sphere. Finally, it locks in support at key moments. Our sup- port to initiatives like Dubai Design Week will remain under the Dubai Cultural Grant, covering participation costs for up-and-coming Emirati designers. In practi- cal terms, that means a student can prototype, secure mentorship and debut a finished piece to international media, all within one ecosystem. In what ways are you working to cultivate a sustain- able cultural ecosystem for artists and writers in Dubai? How do these efforts align with your overar- ching vision for cultural leadership? Building a resilient cultural ecosystem means giving creators the time, resources, and professional scaffold- ing to grow. This then opens doors for them to test their work in Dubai and abroad.

للثّقافة” مبادرة “مدارس ّ أطلقت “دُبي الحيــــــاة” لتعزيــــــز المهــــــارات الثقافيّــــة والإبداعيّــــــة والحياتيّــــــــة لـــــــدى أفـــــــــراد المجتمـــــع، عبـــــــر ورش عمــــــل وأنشطــــــة تفاعليّة في المكتبات العامّة والمراكز الثقافيّة. كيف ترين تطوّر هذه المبادرة في بناء منظومة إبداعيّة مستدامة؟ بـدأت “مـدارس الحيـاة” كمحاولـة بسـيطة لجعـل المكتبـات العامـة والمراكـز الثقافيّــة أكثـر حضـورا فـي الحيـاة اليوميّــة للنّــاس، ولكنّهــا ســرعان مــا تحوّلــت إلــى مســاحة حيّــةٍ، يلتقـي فيهـا النّــاس لاختبـار تجـارب جديــدة، أو تعلّــم مهــارةٍ، أو لمشــاركة الشــغف مــع مــن يشــاركونهم الاهتمامــات نفســها. وبالفعــل، مــا نــراه اليــوم يؤكّــد أن الفكــرة وجــــــدت صداهـــــــا - نــــــــــرى زوّارا مــن كل الأعمــار يجتمعــون أســبوعيّاً، يتعلّمــون، يجرّبــون، ويشــاركون تجاربهــم فــي ورش عمــل أو جلســات حواريّــة مــع كتّــاب ومبدعيــن. المرحلــة التاليــة بــدأت بالفعــل مــع إطــاق “مســار الأثــر” الــذي يُضيـــــف بعــــــــدا تطبيقيــا أعمــق، ويفتــح طريقــا واضحــا أمــام مــن يرغبــون فــي تطويــر مهاراتهــم الإبداعيّــة. فمــن خــال الممارســة العمليّــة المباشــرة مــع محترفيــن فــي المجــال، يُنشـئ المشـاركون ملفّــات أعمـال حقيقيّــة، ويجــدون لأنفســهم موطــئ قــدم فــي الصّناعــات الثقافيــة والإبداعيّــة. ولكـن الأهـم مـن ذلـك كلّــه، هـو أن “مدارس الحيــاة” تواصــل منــح المشــاركين الوقــت والمســاحة للنمــوّ، ســواء كانــوا يخوضــون التّجربــة لأوّل مــرّة، أو يعــودون لتعميــق مَسـيرتهم الإبداعيّــة. مـا نسـعى إليـه هو أن تصبــح التجربــة الإبداعيّــة جــزءا طبيعيّــا مــن روتيــن الحيــاة فــي المدينــة. وعندمــا يحـدث ذلـك، تتشـكّل المنظومـة الإبداعيّــة المسـتدامة فعـاً: بيئـة لا تكتفـي باكتشـاف المواهــب، بــل ترافقهــا، وتنمّيهــا، وتمنحهــا مــا تحتاجــه لتتطــوّر بثقــة وتســتمرّ.

الهوية الثقافيّة والموقع العالمي لاعبـــا بـــارزا بشـــكل متزايـــد علـــى ّ باتـــت دُبـــي الخارطـة الثقافيّــة العالميّــة. كيـف تُسـهم مبـادرات الثّقافيّـــة ّ الهيئـــة فـــي تعريـــف العالـــم بهويّـــة دُبـــي وتصديرهـــا إلـــى الخـــارج؟ تتجسّــد هويّــة دُبــي الثّقافيّــة علــى أفضــل وجــهٍ، حيــن يشــعر الزّائــر بماضــي المدينــة ومســتقبلها فــي اللّحظــة نفســها. وهــذا مــا نحــرص عليــه فــي كل مبــادرة. “مهرجــان ســكّة للفنــون والتّصميــم” علــى ســبيل المثــال، يُجسّــد هــذه الفلســفة حرفيّــاً. فمجــرّد التّجــوال فــي أزقّــة حــي الشــندغة، حيــث البيــوت الحجريّــة القديمــة والبراجيــل التــي تســتحضر الجـذور البحريّــة للمدينـة، يضعـك فـي قلـب التّاريـخ. ولكـن الفـن المعـروض هنـاك، فـي كثيـر مـن الأحيـان، يتكلّــم بلغـة الواقـع المعـزّز، والفنـون الرقميّــة. فيُغـادر الزّائــر وفــي داخلــه انطبــاع فريــد: أن دُبــي مدينــة تحتضــن الماضــي والحاضــر فــي الوقــت نفســه، ولا تــرى فــي ذلــك تناقضــاً، بــل قــوّة. ويذهـب الأدب بهـذه الحكايـة إلـى أبعـد مـن ذلـك. فـي “مهرجــان طيــران الإمــارات لــآداب”، حيــن تجلــس

الكاتبــة النيجيريّــة تشــيماماندا نغــوزي أديتشــي إلــى جانــب شــاعرة إماراتيّــة، يولــد حــوار حقيقــي بيــن المحلــي والعالمـــــــيّ، وتتموضـــــــــع دُبــي كملتقــى صــــادق لتقاليــد أدبيّــة متقاطعــة. هــذه اللّحظــات تُرسّـــــــخ دُبــي كمســاحة حــوار حضــاري حــيّ. وبينمــا نحتفــي بالمحلــيّ، نعمـــل علــى تصديــره أيضــاً. فبرنامــج “المواهــب الأدبيّــة المحليّــة إلــى العالميّــة” هــو امتــداد طبيعــي لهــذه الرّؤيــة، إذ يســاعد الكتّــاب الإماراتيّيــن والمقيميــن علــى إيصــال قصصهــم إلــى قــرّاء عالميّيــن، مــن خــال معــارض كتــب كبــرى ومنصّــات دوليّــة مرموقــة. أوسـاكا - كانسـاي 2025 وحتّــى مشـاركتنا فـي إكسـبو حملــت النّهــج نفســه؛ إذ مــزج برنامــج الجنــاح الإماراتــي بيــن التّصميــم المســتلهم مــن التّــراث والتكنولوجيـا المتقدّمـة، ليُظهـر كيـف تتدفّــق الأفـكار بساسـة بيـن الشّــرق والغـرب، دون أن تفقـد هويّتهـا فــي الطّريــق. كل هــذه المبــادرات، رغــم تنوّعهــا، تحمــل رســالة واحـدة متماسـكة: دُبـي مدينـة متجـذّرة فـي قصّتهـا، واثقــة مــن ابتكاراتهــا، ومفتوحــة دومــا للحــوار.

As CEO, how do you envision the evolu- tion of the School of Life in building a sustainable creative ecosystem? The School of Life programme began as a way to bring Dubai’s public libraries and cultural centres into daily commu- nity life. Over time, it’s become a place where residents can try something new, develop creative skills, and meet others who share similar interests. You see this every week - visitors of all ages sitting together at workshops and taking part in author sessions. With the introduction of the Im- pact Track, the next phase is taking shape. This new direction opens a clear route for people ready to build on their creativity. Through hands- on work and direct involvement with professionals, participants move be- yond the classroom, creating portfo- lios and finding their place in the cul- tural and creative industries. What matters most is that the School of Life continues to give participants time and space to grow, whether they’re stepping in for the first time or re- turning to deepen their craft. Each programme is woven into the city’s routine, making creative learning a natural part of Dubai life. That’s how a lasting, supportive ecosystem takes hold - one where talent isn’t just found but truly developed. CULTURAL IDENTITY & GLOBAL PO- SITIONING Dubai has become an increasingly prominent player on the global cul- tural map. How do your initiatives contribute to defining and export- ing Dubai’s cultural identity? Dubai’s cultural identity travels best when visitors can feel its past and fu- ture at the same moment. Sikka Art & Design Festival offers exactly that. A stroll through Al Shindagha’s al- leyways takes guests past coral-stone houses and wind towers that recall the city’s maritime roots; yet the art on display often speaks in the language of augmented reality and digital craft. People leave with the sense that Dubai is comfortable holding both eras at once, and they share that impression when they return home. Literature carries the story even fur- ther. At the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, a conversation between Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and an Emirati poet places Dubai on the map as a crossroads for global and local lit-ّ

On site, we’ll deepen existing interactive ele- ments. REALIITY House ’s augmented reality layer showed how subtle tech can enrich the experience without crowding the heritage space. We’ll refine that ap- proach - more context where it helps, always aiming to deepen immersion, without taking away from the physical experience. Between festival dates, the Sikka Platform will keep the story alive, sharing highlights, artist reflections, and visitor feedback so the conversa- tion continues long after closing night. Ramadan Heroes has received multiple awards under your leadership, including regional recog- nition for innovation in CSR and digital outreach. As CEO, how are you building on the legacy of that initiative to shape future community-focused cul- tural programmes? The success of Ramadan Heroes reminded us that every programme works best when it starts with the community’s real needs and is built to last. That principle now guides all our outreach. We begin by listening to the people we hope to serve, we design each step with partners who share our values, and we keep the process transparent so trust can grow over time. For us, sustainability extends beyond the environment. It is about protecting cultural traditions and strength- ening social bonds. Whether we are planning a herit- age-craft pop-up or a neighbourhood reading circle, we ask the same questions: Will it strengthen local skills? Does it invite wider participation? Can it stand on its own after the launch moment passes? By holding to those standards, we ensure that all new initiatives carry the same spirit that made Ramadan Heroes resonate shared responsibility and a commitment to lasting impact.
