Hayatona – Our Life
أنظـار كل مـن يراهـا. وفـي الميـاه البـاردة قبالـة سـواحل تسـمانيا، تعيـش سـمكة اليـد الحمـراء ] المهــدّدة بالانقــراض بشــكل حــرج، والتــي تســتخدم زعانفهــا Thymichthys politus[ المميّــزة، الشــبيهة بالأيــدي البشــريّة، للمشــي علــى قــاع البحــر بــدلا مــن الســباحة. وفــي قلــب ]، الفقــاري Asaccus caudivolvulus الإمــارات، يبــرز وزغ الإمارات ذو الأصابــع الورقيّــة [ الوحيــد المســتوطن فــي الدولــة، الــذي لا يوجــد إلا فــي جبــال الحجــر الســاحلية بالقــرب مــن خورفــكان. ورغــم الاعتقــاد بأنّــه علــى وشــك الانقــراض، فــإن الدراســات الميدانيّــة التــي كشــفت عــن وجــود خمــس مجموعــات منــه، لتعيــد الأمــل فــي بقائــه. 2022 أُجريــت عــام إنّنــا نعيــش فــي عالــم مذهــلٍ، ملــيء بالعجائــب ومثيــر للدّهشــة، حيــث يــؤدّي كل كائــن حــي دورا حاســما فــي الحفــاظ علــى تــوازن نظامــه البيئــي وصحّــة كوكبنــا. بعــض هــذه الكائنــات يأســرنا بجمالــه اللافــت، أو بســلوكه المدهــش، وبعضهــا يثيــر إعجابنــا بقدراتــه الفريــدة علــى التكيّــف والصّمــود. ومــع ذلــك، فــإن جميــع الأنــواع التــي يدعمهــا الصنــدوق تواجــه تهديــد الانقــراض؛ فبعضهــا يقــف علــى حافّــة الــزوال، وبعضهــا الآخــر مــا يــزال شــبه مجهــول، لكنّهــا جميعـا تسـتحق فرصـة للحيـاة. ومـن واجبنـا أن نضمـن بقاءهـا، لتبقـى مصـدر إلهـام للأجيـال القادمــة، وحارســا لثــراء الطبيعــة. فلنعمــل معــا علــى تغييــر هــذا المســار المحفــوف بالمخاطــر، ولنغيّــر حكايــة القائمــة الحمــراء إلــى حكايــة بقــاء. ولنمنــح “ســلحفاة البانــك” ووزغ الإمارات ذو الأصابــع الورقيــة فرصــة حقيقيّــة للبقــاء، ولنحــرص علــى أن تبقــى ســمكة اليــد الحمــراء والإغوانــا الورديــة نابضتيــن بالحيــاة، وألا تلقيــا مصيــر طائــر الــدودو، وتتحــوّلا إلــى ذكــرى منقرضــة. يــدا بيــد، يمكننــا أن . نحــوّل هــذا الأمــل إلــى حقيقــة.

Closer to home, the Emirati leaf-toed gecko [Asaccus caudivolvu- lus] is the UAE’s only endemic vertebrate, found solely in the coastal Hajar Mountains near Khor Fakkan. It had been thought on the brink of extinction, but sur- veys in 2022 found five populations. We live in a fascinating world filled with awe and wonder, where each species plays a crucial role in sustaining a healthy, balanced ecosystem. Some crea- tures have striking appearances or peculiar behaviours that make them unforgettable, while others possess unique adaptations that intrigue us. Every species supported by the Fund is endangered, some critically so, or little known, and it is our responsibility to en- sure their survival for future generations to marvel at. Let’s reverse the red and give the Punk Turtle and Emirati Leaf-toed Gecko a fighting chance. May the Red Handfish and Pink Iguana remain vibrant, never to suffer the same fate as the Dodo. Together, we can make this dream a reality. .

التنــوّع الحيوانــي الــذي كان يزدهــر يومــا فــي أراضيهــم، بمــا فــي ذلــك طائــر “غراليــا أزول” ]، والغــزال الأحمــر Cyanocorax caeruleus ]، المعــروف بالغــراب الأزرق [ Gralha Azul[ .]Veado-Mateiro-Pequeno[ ” “فيــادو ماتيــرو بيكينيــو وبفضــل دعــم صنــدوق محمــد بــن زايــد، خصّــص هــذا المجتمــع جــزءا مــن أراضيــه لإنشــاء مشــاتل طبيعيّــة تُــزرع فيهــا شــتلات “أروكاريــا”، فــي خطــوة طموحــة تهــدف إلــى إعــادة إحيـاء هـذه الشـجرة التاريخيّــة. ومـن المرتقـب أن تتحـوّل هـذه المبـادرة إلـى نمـوذج ملهـم لمجتمعــات أخــرى، يحفّزهــا علــى الســير علــى النهــج ذاتــه، وتبنّــي مشــاريع مماثلــة لصــون الأنــواع وإعــادة إحيــاء النّظــم البيئيّــة. مــن بيــن الحــالات الرائعــة الأخــرى التــي حظيــت بدعــم الصنــدوق، نجــد نحلــة بومبــوس ملــم، 40 ]، التــي يصــل طــول ملكاتهــا إلــى Bombus dahlbomii باتاغونيــا العملاقــة [ ]، الــذي ســمّي علــى اســم الســير جــون كيــرك، Piliocolobus kirkii[ وقــرد كولبــس الأحمــر أوّل مقيــم بريطانــي فــي زنجبــار. ومــن الأمثلــة اللافتــة أيضــا ســحليّة بورنيــو عديمــة الأذن ]، وهــي الناجيــة الوحيــدة مــن فصيلــة “لانثانوتيــداي” Lanthanotus borneensis[ ]، وهــي مــن الزواحــف شــبه المائيّــة، تتمتّــع بقــدرة فريــدة علــى البقــاء Lanthanotidae[ بــلا حركــة تحــت المــاء لســاعات، مثبّتــة نفســها بجــذور الأشــجار أو الصخــور بواســطة ذيلهــا القـويّ، تفاديـا للانجـراف أثنـاء الفيضانـات. أمّــا عيناهـا الفيروزيّتـان السـاحرتان، فتخطفـان
nurseries for planting Araucaria seedlings. This initia- tive is expected to grow and inspire other groups to en- gage in similar conservation efforts. Other fascinating cases supported by the Fund include the Giant Patagonian bumblebee [ Bombus dahlbom- ii ], with queens reaching up to 40mm, and the Kirk’s red colobus monkey [ Piliocolobus kirkii ], named after Sir John Kirk, the first British Resident of Zanzibar. An- other intriguing example is the Earless monitor lizard [ Lanthanotus borneensis] , the sole survivor of the family Lanthanotidae. This semi-aquatic reptile can remain immobile underwater for hours, using its prehensile tail to cling to stones and roots, avoiding being swept away during floods. With its striking turquoise blue eyes, it captivates all who encounter it.
