Musahamaat Fikriyya – Constructs of Creativity
سلســلة مــن المســابقات العالميّــة LAGI وعلــى مــدار الســنوات، نظّمــت التــي جذبــت آلاف المصمّميــن الذيــن قدّمــوا تصــوّرات تجمــع بيــن الابتــكار الجمالــي والوظيفــة البيئيّــة. وبعــد مرحلــة اختيــار دقيقــة، تألّقــت فكــرة “قــوس الزمــن” التــي قدّمهــا المعمــاري الألمانــي ريــكاردو . 2019 ماريانــو فــي مســابقة اســتضافتها مدينــة مصــدر بأبوظبــي عــام وقـد أثـارت الفكـرة اهتمـام مدينـة هيوسـتن، التـي احتضنتهـا وأعـادت مواءمتهــا لتتناســب مــع خصائصهــا الجغرافيــة، فتحوّلــت مــن تصــوّر معمــاري إلــى أيقونــة حضريــة. ، LAGI وصـف روبـرت فيـري المشـروع بأنّــه لحظـة مفصليّــة فـي مسـيرة وقــال: “إنّــه أوّل عمــل فنّــي عــام ودائــم بهــذا الحجــم يعمــل بطاقــة كيلــوواط). صحيــح أنّنــا نفّذنــا فــي الســابق مشــاريع 350 متجــدّدة ( أصغــر نطاقــاً، مثــل الجداريّــات الفنّيــة العاملــة بالطاقــة الشمســيّة، لكــن “قــوس الزمــن” هــو التجســيد الأوســع لرؤيتنــا، التــي تنطلــق مــن إيمــان راسـخ بـأن الحلـول المناخيّــة يمكـن أن تكـون نابضـة بالجمـال، حاضـرة فـي تفاصيـل الحيـاة اليوميّــة، وقـادرة علـى تحويـل الفضـاءات العامـة إلـى منصّــات مفتوحـة للتأمّــل والتعلّــم والانخـراط فـي مسـيرة التغييـر.” فيــري لا يــرى فــي المشــروع مجــرّد منحوتــة أو معلــم بصــريّ، بــل بنيــة تحتيّــة للطاقــة، ومثــالا علــى دور الفــن الاســتراتيجي فــي مســتقبل المــدن. ويضيــف: “هــذا المشــروع هــو أوّل تجســيد واقعــي وشــامل ، ونقطـة تحـوّل قـد تُمهّــد الطريـق أمـام مـدن العالـم لتتبنّــى LAGI لرؤيـة نموذجــا جديــداً، تُصبــح فيــه مشــاريع الفــن العــام مكوّنــا فاعــا فــي منظومــة الطاقــة، مســاهمة فــي تحقيــق أهــداف الانبعاثــات الصفريّــة.” أمـــا مدينـــة هيوســـتن، فأدركـــت القيمـــة المزدوجـــة لهـــذا المشـــروع؛ فقـــد رأت فيـــه معلمـــا بصريّـــا ومصـــدرا للطاقـــة النظيفـــة. وتابـــع فيـــري: “أدركــت هيوســتن البعــد الرمــزي لهــذا المشــروع كمعلــم أيقونــي جديــد يعكـــس هويتهـــا، ويكـــرّم إرثهـــا كعاصمـــة عالميّـــة للطاقـــة ومركـــز رائـــد للفنـــون والثقافـــة.” رمز يُشع بالطاقة النظيفة فدّانــات فــي هيوســتن، 104 فــي قلــب مايســون بــارك الممتــد علــى ألـف 60 سـيتعالى “قـوس الزمـن”، الـذي سـتنبض فـي هيكلـه أكثـر مـن ألــف 400 خليّــة شمســيّة كهروضوئيّــة، قــادرة علــى إنتــاج مــا يقــارب كيلوواط-ســاعي مــن الكهربــاء ســنويّاً، وهــو مــا يفــوق حاجــة المنتــزه الســنوية مــن الطاقــة. هـــذا التحـــوّل النوعـــي يأتـــي ضمـــن مســـار اســـتراتيجي تتّبعـــه مدينـــة ، حيـن أعلنـت بلديتهـا اعتمادهـا الكامـل علـى 2020 هيوسـتن منـذ عـام مصـادر الطاقـة النظيفـة لتشـغيل مرافقهـا، واضعـة نصـب عينيهـا هـدف . واليـــوم، تقتـــرب المدينـــة مـــن 2050 الحيـــاد الكربونـــي بحلـــول عـــام كتابـــة فصـــل بيئـــي جديـــد، مـــن خـــال اســـتضافتها لأوّل حديقـــة تعمـــل بالطاقـــة الشمســـيّة بالكامـــل. ، صــرّح عضــو مجلــس 2025 وفــي مؤتمــر صحفــي أقيــم فــي مايــو المدينـة خواكيـن مارتينيـز قائـاً: “سـيصبح منتـزه مايسـون بـارك قريبًــا أوّل حديقــة عامــة كبــرى فــي البــاد تُغــذى بالكامــل بالطاقــة الشمســيّة المحليّــة. وهـذا لا يصـب فـي مصلحـة البيئـة فحسـب، بـل فـي مصلحـة الاقتصــاد أيضــا - إذ لــن تُضطــر المدينــة بعــد الآن أن تدفــع فواتيــر الكهربــاء المتّصلــة بتشــغيل هــذا المنتــزه.” وأضـــاف مارتينيـــز مؤكّـــدا أن “قـــوس الزمـــن” هـــو أكثـــر مـــن مجـــرّد هيـكل فنّــي، بـل هـو: “إضافـة فريـدة للمنتـزه تُعـزّز الترابـط بيـن النـاس والمـــكان. فوظيفتـــه لا تجعـــل منـــه ســـاعة شمســـيّة مبتكـــرة فقـــط، بـــل مســـرحا مفتوحـــاً، وســـاحة رحبـــة تســـتقبل العائـــات، حيـــث يجـــد الأطفـــال متنفّســـا للّعـــب، والكبـــار مـــاذا للتأمّـــل، والجيـــران نقطـــة لقـــاء تُعيـــد متعـــة التواصـــل.” وعلــى مــدى عمــره التشــغيلي المُقــدَّر بثاثــة عقــود، يُتوقَّــع أن يُنتــج مليــون كيلوواط-ســاعي مــن الكهربــاء 12 “قــوس الزمــن” أكثــر مــن طــن متــري مــن ثانــي 8,500 النظيفــة، مــا يُعــادل تقليــل انبعــاث نحــو أكسـيد الكربـون. وهـو بذلـك لا يكتفـي بتلبيـة حاجـة المـكان مـن الطاقـة،

كل تلـك الشـروط فـي حـي إيسـت إنـد الـذي يتمتّــع بموقـع جميـل يُتيـح تنفيـذ المشـروع بالشـكل الأمثـل، ووفـق خطـة التطويـر المعتمـدة.” ، وفّــر مايســون بــارك مســاحة 1930 منــذ افتتاحــه لأوّل مــرّة فــي عــام خضــراء نابضــة بالحيــاة لســكّان حــي إيســت إنــد فــي هيوســتن. ومــع اتصالـه بممـر قنـاة “برايـز بايـو” المائيـة، وعـدد مـن المرافـق الترفيهيّــة المتنوّعـة، يُعـد هـذا المنتـزه مـن المواقـع الحيويّــة، وحلقـة وصـل هامّــة ضمــن شــبكة الممــرّات الخضــراء الواســعة فــي المدينــة. وبتصميمــه المبتكــر، لــن يُعيــد “قــوس الزمــن” تعريــف هــذا المنتــزه المحلّــي فحســب، بــل ســيقف أيضــا كبوابــة مهيبــة لواحــدة مــن أكثــر الشـبكات المروريـة ابتـكارا فـي البـاد. وللمشـاة وهـواة الجـري وركـوب الدراجـات، يَعِدُهـم هـذا المشـروع بمـا هـو أكثـر مـن مجـرد عـرض بصـري مبهــر؛ بــل ســيوفّر لهــم مــاذا مظلّــا هادئــا ومريحــاً، وتجربــة ملموســة لاســتدامة الفعليّــة. رؤية تشكلّت على مر السنين “قــوس الزمــن” فــي هيوســتن هــو واحــد مــن تلــك المشــاريع القليلــة التـي وُلـدت مـن رحـم الإيمـان بالفـن كقـوة مُحرّكـة نحـو مسـتقبل أكثـر اســتدامةً. بلغــت كلفــة المشــروع عشــرين مليــون دولار أمريكــي، لــم تُقتطــع مــن أمــوال دافعــي الضرائــب، ولــم تتحمّلهــا خزينــة الدولــة؛ بــل جــاءت بكاملهــا علــى شــكل تبرعــات خاصــة، قدّمهــا أفــراد ومؤسّســات يؤمنـون بـأن الفـن ليـس ترفـاً، بـل ضـرورة إنسـانية. وفـي طليعـة هـؤلاء، بــرز “صنــدوق أكرونيــم” ومقــرّه نيويــورك بقيــادة باربــرا توبــر، واحــدة مــن أبــرز الأســماء فــي عالــم العمــل الخيــري الثقافــي. لكـن المشـروع لـم يكـن وليـد لحظـة عابـرة، إنمـا تَشـكّل باتّسـاق كطمـوح راكمتــه الســنوات، ونضــج بهــدوء تحــت مظلّــة مبــادرة “لانــد آرت 2008 )، وهــي منظمــة غيــر ربحيــة انطلقــت عــام LAGI جينيريتــور” ( علــى يــد الثنائــي إليزابيــث مونويــان وروبــرت فيــري، برؤيــة جذريــة تُعيــد تعريــف الفــن كقــوة دافعــة نحــو مســتقبل نظيــف. هدفهــا؟ دمــج الجمــال البصــري بالطاقــة المتجــدّدة، وجعــل الفنّانيــن والمصمّميــن مشــاركين فعليّيــن فــي مواجهــة أزمــة المنــاخ.
Since 2020, Houston’s municipal facilities have been powered by 100 per cent renewable energy with a goal of city-wide carbon neu- trality by 2050. Now, the city is gearing up for the nation’s first solar-powered park. “Mason Park will soon become perhaps the first major public park in the country that is entirely powered locally by the sun. The economic benefits are clear: the city will no longer need to pay for electricity at Mason Park,” Joaquin Martinez, Houston City Council Member, said at a press conference in May 2025. He added that that the Arch of Time is more than just a structure; it’s a unique addition to the park that connects the community. “Its function as a sundial, a stage and a gathering space for [the] com- munity where families can picnic, neighbours can come together and people of all ages come play, learn, and reflect.” Over its 30-year lifespan, the Arch of Time will generate more than 12 mil- lion kWh, offsetting nearly 8,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide. In oth- er words, all the energy that goes into its making - from the smelting of the steel to the drilling that puts the final cladding into place - will be offset through the energy it generates. And with the potential to up- grade its solar panels over time, its contribution to environmental resil- ience could stretch far into the next century. Kenneth Allen, Houston’s Parks and Recreation director, sees both poetic and practical value: “When you think about the structure, the size, the purpose - from generating energy to providing a park space with an element where people can get shade, where they can recreate and perform, and energy produced - this is going to be iconic.” Monoian believes the project will contribute to public discourse around climate change and solutions by making the energy transi- tion visible, experiential, and emotionally resonant. “As a function- ing solar generator and landmark-scale public artwork, it transforms abstract concepts like decarbonisation and climate resilience into a shared civic experience.” “Rather than relegating renewable infrastructure to the periphery, the Arch invites the public to engage with sustainability at the heart of ur-
The project is the result of more than a decade of ambition from the Land Art Generator Initiative [LAGI], a nonprofit that reimagines how art and energy can converge. Conceived in 2008 by Elizabeth Monoian and Robert Ferry, LAGI champions the idea that artists and designers should be central to the global energy transition. Through international design competitions, the initiative has inspired thousands of ideas. Among them: the Arch of Time , originally envisioned by German architect Riccardo Mariano as a 2019 submission to LAGI’s Masdar City competition in Abu Dhabi. After a competitive review pro- cess, the City of Houston selected it for full-scale implementation and adapted it for its unique latitude. Ferry described the project as a breakthrough moment for LAGI - the first full-scale [350 kW], permanent work of public art and renewable energy infrastructure. “Building on previous smaller-scale implemen- tations such as LAGI solar mural artworks, it brings our mission viv- idly to life: to show that climate solutions can be beautiful, that clean energy can be woven into the fabric of daily life, and that public spaces can help inspire change.” What sets this project apart, he notes, is that it’s not just a piece of art - it’s energy infrastructure. “As the first built realisation of LAGI’s vision, it sets a precedent for cities around the world to follow, where new high-profile public art projects can also be genuine contributions to achieving zero emissions targets.” Crucially, the City of Houston recognised the dual value: a visual land- mark and a power generator. “They saw its potential as a new iconic landmark for the city that will celebrate and honour Houston’s legacy as energy capital of the world and a leading centre for arts and cul- ture,” he added. AN ICON OF CLEAN POWER With more than 60,000 solar photovoltaic cells embedded into its surface, the Arch of Time is expected to generate nearly 400,000 kilo- watt-hours of electricity annually - enough to power the entirety of the 104-acre Mason Park. In fact, in 2024, the park consumed 382,800 kWh. By producing more energy than it uses, the arch will transform Mason Park into a net-zero facility.
