Afaaq Thaqafiyya – Cultural Blueprints
مــا حــدث فــي هــذا المشــروع كان لقــاء حقيقيّــا بيــن أشــخاص مــن ثقافــات مختلفــةٍ، قــرّروا أن يســتمعوا لبعضهــم، ويتعلّمــوا معــاً، ويبتكــروا شــيئا جميــاً. والنتيجــة لــم تكــن معرضــا اســتثنائيّا فحســب، بــل إرثــا عميقــا مــن الرّوابــط القائمــة علــى الثّقــة، والتّقديــر، والالتــزام، وهــذه … والصّداقــة، والاحتــرام المتبــادل ليســت تفاصيــل ثانويّــةً، بــل هــي جوهــر أي حـوار ثقافـي مسـتدام، والأسـاس الّــذي نحتاجـه إذا كنّــا نطمـح إلـى بنـاء عالـم أكثـر إنســانيّةً، وتفاهمــاً، ورحمــةً. هــل تريــن أن هــذا التّعــاون مــع وزارة الثّقافــة الإماراتيّــة ومنصّــة البُــردة هــو بدايــة لشــراكات قادمــة؟ نعــم، ونحــن متحمّســون جــدّا لمواصلــة هـذه الشـّـراكة مـع وزارة الثّقافـة الإماراتيّــة وجائــزة البُــردة، وتعميقهــا. لقــد بدأنــا بالفعــل تبــادل الأفــكار حــول المشــاريع المســتقبليّة، ومــا يمكــن أن نحقّقــه معــاً، لمواصلــة هــذا الحــوار، وتوســيع مــداه . ليصــل إلــى جمهــور أكبــر.
جمعنــا فيــه مقــالات للقيّميــن، إلــى جانــب مسـاهمات مهمّــة مـن شـخصيّات بـارزة فـي مشــهد الفــن الإســامي والعربــي المعاصــر. كيــــــــــــــــف صمّمتــــــــــــم البرنامـــــــــــــج العـــام ليُلامـــــس جمهـــــــور تورونتــــــو المحلـــــــيّ، وكذلـــــــك الـزوّار مـــــــــن خلفيّــات مختلفـة، بمـــا فيهـــم الـــزوّار الإماراتيّـــون؟ فكّرنـا كثيـرا فـي هـذا الجانـب، لأنّنـا أردنـا للبرنامـج أن يكـون تجسـيدا حيّـا لفكـرة “النـور”، لا كرمـز روحـي فقـط، بـل كفرصـة للتعلّـم والاكتشـاف الفنّـي المشـترك. حرصنــا علــى أن يكــون البرنامــج غنيّــا ومتنوّعــاً، فضــم حــوارات فنيّــة تُســلّط الضــوء علــى خلفيّــات الأعمــال، وورش عمــل فــي الخــط والزّخرفــة. وكان مهمّــا بالنّســبة لنــا أيضــا أن يقــدّم البرنامــج عروضــا تُعيــد للشّــعر والموســيقى الدينيّــة والتّــاوة مكانتهــا كامتــداد معاصــر لــلإرث الفنّــــي الإسامـــــــيّ. فـي عالـم يشـهد الكثيـر مـن الإنقسـامات، كيــف تُسهـــــــم مبــــــادرات كهــــــــذه فــي تعزيــــــز روح التّضامــن الثقافــيّ، وبنــاء مجتمــع إنســاني مشــترك؟
The public programming throughout has been designed to echo the theme of Al Noor and enlightenment while also providing insights into broader historical, artistic and technical contexts. Consequently, the program- ming includes curatorial talks; art workshops devoted to calligraphy and ornamentation; and performances that foreground the central importance and continuing contemporary relevance of poetry, recitation and reli- gious musical expression. In today’s fractured world, how do you see initi- atives like this contributing to a sense of cultural solidarity and community? This project provided a wonderful opportunity for all participants to learn and create with each other in a spirit of intercultural commitment and understanding, which not only resulted in a remarkable exhibition but a deep legacy of mutual respect, trust, commitment and friendship – the basis for any lasting intercultural dialogue and empathy, needed to build a better world. Looking ahead, do you foresee future collaborations with the UAE Ministry of Culture and the Al Burda platform? We are very much looking forward to deepening our collaboration with the Ministry and the Al Burda Award and have already started our brainstorming as to what might come next. .

and the second iteration for a North Ameri- can audience largely unfamiliar with them, therefore requiring a considerable degree of additional interpretation and opportunities for intercultural learning. For the Toronto it- eration, rare historical objects from the Aga Khan Museum were added to emphasise the centuries-old dimensions and legacies of the sophisticated art forms celebrated by the Al Burda Award and encouraged to thrive in a globalised, contemporary context across the Muslim world and beyond. You’ve spoken about fostering intercultural artistic dialogue and inclusive engagement. How did these ideals influence the exhibi- tion’s design and visitor experience? Every aspect of this exhibition project was de- signed as an exercise in intercultural artistic dialogue and inclusive engagement, starting from the way the curatorial teams from the UAE and the Aga Khan Museum committed to working with each other throughout the process, to the conceptualisation of the ex- hibition story and design, with its emphasis on intercultural accessibility, and the exhibi- tion catalogue, which not only brings togeth- er contributions by the exhibition curators themselves but features a number of other prominent voices in the field of contemporary Arab and Islamic art. How has the programming been tailored to resonate with different audiences locally in Toronto, and internationally, including Emi- rati visitors?
