M_39 Community. © M_39 designed space and an environment that actively promotes business growth, but they are also opportunities for mentorship and guidance, capacity building and places to share and showcase work, gaining invaluable insight and feedback from the community. In that sense then, it is a safe space to experiment, collaborate, and continuously learn. In the conversation that follows, Dr Al Hashimi outlines the ripple ef- fect that enabling such experimentation, reflection, and collaboration within Abu Dhabi and the wider region, why creativity is not always valued and how M_39 how it embraces diverse, often nonlinear ways of learning. She also covers M_39’s unique co-working model and how it embraces the values of connectivity and collaboration to bring about new ideas, and a recognition that growth doesn’t happen in isolation. In founding M_39, what kind of ecosystem were you seeking to build for the UAE’s creative and cultural entrepreneurs? With Madar_39, we set out to design a place that not only supports creative and cultural entrepreneurs but truly understands the re- alities of their journey. We wanted to build an ecosystem rooted in generosity and imagination, where creative entrepreneurs could ex- periment, collaborate, and grow without the pressure of immediate commercial success. Al Majlis - Forums of Exchange 29 N Too often, creative work is undervalued or forced to fit into rigid mod- els of productivity. At Madar_39, we wanted to flip that script. We im- agined a space that brings together designers, storytellers, independent thinkers, and doers under one roof: a place where ideas can be nurtured into intellectual property, businesses, or movements. Our aim was to create an environment that removes barriers, encourages dialogue, and fosters a sense of belonging. One that champions local voices while also equipping them to resonate globally. Ultimately, we’re trying to shape an ecosystem that sees creativity as a powerful engine for innovation and cultural vitality in the UAE and beyond. How has M_39 evolved since its inception, and what have been some key turning points in its development? One of the early turning points was recognising that our role was not just to provide physical infrastructure, but to actively shape a learning environment, an academy of sorts, with imagination at its core. That فــي زاويــة خاصّــة مــن مينــاء زايــد الصاخــب، بيــن صفــوف حاويــات الشــحن المتراصّــة ورائحــة البحــر المالــح، يختبــئ فضــاء مختلــف عــن كل مــا حولــه. مــا إن تخطــو داخلــه، حتــى يهــدأ ضجيــج المينــاء ويبــدأ إيقــاع آخــر؛ إيقــاع الأفــكار وهــي تتشــكّل، وصــوت الخيــال وهــو يجــد ”M_39 أو “ ،” 39 لنفســه مســاحة رحبــة يتنفّــس فيهــا. هــذا هــو “مــدار كمــا يطيــب للبعــض تســميته. المـكان أشـبه ببيـت كبيـر يفتـح ذراعيـه للمبدعيـن: عزلـة هادئـة توفّرهـا المكاتــب الخاصّــة، وتعــاون مُلهــم تولّــده مســاحات العمــل المشــتركة، وحيــاة نابضــة فــي الاســتوديوهات الفنيّــة. الشــمس هنــا ليســت ضيفــا عابـراً، بـل شـريك يومـيّ، تتسـلّل أشـعتها الذهبيّــة عبـر النوافـذ، لتعانـق الجـدران المكسـوّة بأعمـال فنيّــة. قـد تبصـر أيضـا كلبـا أليفـا يمـر بجـوار مصمّــم غـارق فـي عالمـه، فالمـكان يرحّــب بالحيوانـات الأليفـة، ويشـجّع علـى بيئـة إبداعيّــة بـا حواجـز. كل شـيء هنـا شـفّاف، بالمعنـى الحرفـي والمجـازيّ؛ فالواجهـات الزجاجيّــة التـي تفصـل بيـن المبدعيـن، تجمعهـم فـي الوقـت ذاتـه، مانحـة إيّاهـم خصوصيّــة لا تحجبهـم عـن عالـم الأفـكار النابـض مـن حولهـم. يبــدو الأمــر أشــبه بجامعــة أُعيــد تخيّلهــا، نســخة مطــوَّرة، لكنّهــا جامعــة بـا مدرّجـات جامـدة أو قاعـات مغلقـة. إنّهـا مسـاحات غارقـة فـي الضوء الطبيعــيّ، وزوايــا حــوار تُولــد فيهــا الإبداعــات، واســتوديوهات تحــوّل Nestled in Mina Zayed, an industrial area punctuated with shipping containers and the smell of salt hangs lingering in the air, Madar_39, or M_39 as it is more commonly known, blossoms. Inside the building, a collection of shared working spaces and individual offices and studi- os, there is a quiet buzz of activity. The spaces, which are occupied by members and are all glass-fronted, allow both for privacy and a col- lective creative spirit. Artwork adorns the walls, natural light weaves through the open areas, and a pet-friendly policy means a dog might calmly pad down a corridor beside a designer deep in thought. It feels a bit like a university reimagined [a kind-of-University 2.0] where in- stead of lecture halls and seminar rooms; there are sunlit offices, cre- ative studios, and conversation corners where new ideas are growing. Its name – Madar – means orbit in Arabic and it is aptly named. Here, creative entrepreneurs orbit one another like celestial bodies nourish- ing individual growth trajectories while drawing strength from their collective gravity. At the helm is Dr Alamira Reem Al Hashimi, an urbanist, author, and cultural strategist who is committed to supporting and developing Abu Dhabi’s creative entrepreneurial ecosystem. الأفــكار الخــام إلــى تحــف فنيّــة. حتــى الاســم نفســه يحمــل فــي طيّاتــه رؤيــة المــكان: فكمــا تــدور الكواكــب فــي مداراتهــا، يــدور المبدعــون وروّاد الأعمــال هنــا فــي دوائــر إبداعيّــة، يغــذّي كل منهــم مســار الآخــر، وتتضاعــف قوّتهــم مــن جاذبيتهــم الجماعيّــة. خلــف هــذا المشــروع الإبداعــي الفريــد، تقــف شــخصيّة اســتثنائيّة: الدكتـورة الأميـرة ريـم الهاشـمي، المتخصّصـة فـي التخطيـط الحضـريّ، والكاتبــة، والمستشــارة الثقافيّــة، التــي كرّســت جهودهــا لتمكيــن 39 ودعــم المنظومــة الإبداعيّــة فــي أبوظبــي. بالنســبة لهــا، فــإن مــدار_ يتجـاوز كونـه مجـرّد مسـاحة عمـل عصريّــة وبأسـعار معقولـة؛ إنّــه مـاذ حقيقـي لنمـو الأعمـال، حيـث يجـد الأعضـاء والجمهـور فرصـا للتدريـب، والإرشـاد، وبرامـج بنـاء القـدرات. هـو منصّــة لعـرض الأعمـال والحصـول علـى آراء قيّمـة وبنّــاءة مـن مجتمـع متكامـل، وبيئـة آمنـة للتجريـب دون خــوف، والتعــاون والتعلّــم المســتمر كجــزء مــن الحيــاة اليوميّــة. فــي هــذا الحــوار، تســتعرض الدكتــورة الهاشــمي الأثــر المتسلســل والمتنامــي الــذي يولّــده ترســيخ ثقافــة التجريــب والتأمّــل والتعــاون، ســواء فــي أبوظبــي أو علــى امتــداد المنطقــة. وتتحــدّث عــن الأســباب التـي تجعـل الإبـداع، رغـم قيمتـه الجوهريّــة، لا ينـال دائمـا مـا يسـتحقّه مـن التقديـر والاعتـراف، وتسـلّط الضـوء علـى الأسـاليب التعليميّــة غيـر . كمــا تتنــاول نمــوذج العمــل المشــترك 39 التقليديّــة التــي يتبنّاهــا مــدار_ الفريــد الــذي يعتمــده المــكان، وكيــف يترجــم قيــم التواصــل والتعــاون إلــى أفــكار جديــدة ومشــاريع ملموســة، مــع إيمــان راســخ بــأن النمــو الحقيقــي لا يمكــن أن يتحقّــق فــي معــزل عــن الآخريــن. 39 مــا هــو النظــام البيئــي الــذي ســعيتم إلــى بنائــه مــن خــال مــدار_ لــروّاد الأعمــال الإبداعيّــة والثقافيّــة فــي الإمــارات؟ بهــدف ابتــكار منظومــة تحتضــن روّاد الأعمــال 39 أسّســنا مــدار_ الإبداعيّــة والثقافيّــة فــي الإمــارات، وتفهــم تفاصيــل رحلتهــم ومــا يرافقهــا مــن تحدّيــات. أردنــا بنــاء بيئــة متجــذّرة فــي روح الســخاء والخيــال، يســتطيع أصحــاب المشــاريع الإبداعيّــة فيهــا أن يجرّبــوا، ويتعاونــوا، وينمــوا، بعيــدا عــن ضغــط النّجــاح التجــاري الفــوريّ. غالبــا مــا يُنتقــص مــن قيمــة العمــل الإبداعــيّ، أو يُحشــر فــي قوالــب جامـدة للإنتاجيّــة، لكنّنـا سـعينا إلـى قلـب هـذه المعادلـة. تخيّلنـا مسـاحة تجمــع المصمّميــن ورواة القصــص والمفكّريــن المســتقلّين، والمبدعيــن تحـت سـقف واحـد؛ مـكان يمكـن فيـه صقـل الأفـكار لتتحـوّل إلـى مُلكيـة فكريّــة، أو مشــاريع تجاريّــة، أو حتــى حــركات مجتمعيّــة مؤثّــرة. كان هدفنــا الرئيســي أن نســتحدث بيئــة تُزيــل الحواجــز، وتشــجّع الحــوار، وتعــزّز شــعورا عميقــا بالانتمــاء. أردنــا مســاحة ترفــع مــن شــأن الأصــوات المحليّــة، وتزوّدهــا فــي الوقــت نفســه بــالأدوات التــي تمكّنهــا مـن الوصـول إلـى جمهـور عالمـيّ. فـي النّهايـة، نحـن نسـعى إلـى تشـكيل منظومــة تــرى فــي الإبــداع محــرّكا قويّــا لابتــكار والحيويّــة الثقافيّــة، فــي الإمــارات وخارجهــا. منــذ انطاقتــه، ومــا هــي أبــرز المحطّــات التــي 39 كيــف تطــوّر مــدار_ شــكّلت مســيرته؟ منذ البدايات، أدركنا أن دورنا يتجاوز توفير البنية التحتيّة الماديّة. كانت إحدى المحطّات الفارقة هي إدراكنا لضرورة إنشاء بيئة تعليميّة متكاملة، أشبه بأكاديميّة محورها الخيال. هذا الوعي دفعنا إلى تحويل تركيزنا نحو البرامج، والإرشاد، وصناعة المحتوى، لنقدّم للمبدعين أكثر من مجرد مكان للعمل؛ بل مساحة حقيقيّة للنمو والتطوّر. محطــة محوريّــة أخــرى مهمّــة تمثّلــت فــي تبنّــي فكــرة الإتاحــة و“الوصـول”. أدركنـا أن الحيويّــة الإبداعيّــة لا تنبـع مـن أماكـن حصريّــة أو آليّــات عمـل منغلقـة، بـل مـن الشـموليّة المدروسـة. الأمـر الـذي حـدا بنـا ، 39 إلـى إعـادة التفكيـر فـي كيفيّــة الترحيـب بالنـاس فـي فضـاء مـدار_ فصمّمنــا مســارات انضمــام إنســانيّة وشــخصيّة، بعيــدة عــن الطابــع التجــاري الصــرف. كمــا اكتشــفنا أن أثرنــا الأعمــق يتحقّــق عندمــا نجمــع النــاس عــن قصــدٍ، حــــــول حـــــوارٍ، أو تعـــــاونٍ، أو هـدف مشـترك. تلـك اللحظـــــات منحـــــت
