المصوّريـــن وانتشـــرت علـــى نطـــاق واســـع فـــي جميـــع أنحـــاء العالـــم، لتُظهـــر التّـــراث فـــي صـــورة ســـاحرة ومعاصـــرة. ومثـــل هـــذه الأحـــداث البـــارزة، تحتفـــي بالتّـــراث، بقـــدر مـــا تُبـــرز الحنّـــاء كجســـر يصـــل بيـــن الثقافــات، وتؤكّــد أنّهــا لغــة جمــال عالميّــة يفهمهـــا الجميـــع. فـــي جميـــع أنحـــاء العالـــم العربـــيّ، تظـــل المجتمعـــات بعائلاتهـــا وأفرادهـــا ملتزمـــة تمامـــا بالحفـــاظ علـــى تقليـــد الحنّـــاء حيّـــاً، لضمـــان انتقالـــه مـــن جيـــل إلـــى آخـــر عبـــر مســـارات رســـميّة وغيـــر رســـميّة. فمـــن البيـــت تبـــدأ الحكايـــة، حيـــث تتناقـــل النّســـاء أســـرار هـــذا الفـــن مـــن خـــلال طقـــوس الحنّـــاء، التـــي تعتمـــد علـــى الملاحظـــة الشّـــغوفة والتكـــرار المتقـــن. وبأناملهـن المتمرّسـة، يرسـمن علـى الأكـف والأذرع خطوطـا أنيقـة، فينقلـن مهاراتهـن

فــي الشّــرق الأوســط أو علــى الصّعيــد العالمـيّ. ففـي الأردن، مثـلاً، باتـت حفـلات الحنـّـاء التـي تسـبق الزّفـاف الملكـي طقسـا ينتظـره الجميـع بشـغف. وعندمـا تزوّجـت ، اســتضافت 2023 الأميــرة إيمــان عــام الملكـة رانيـا لابنتهـا حفلـة حنّــاء تقليديّــة، حظيــت بتغطيــة إعلاميّــة واســعة، قدّمــت مــن خلالهــا التّقاليــد فــي صــورة مبهــرةٍ، تمــزج بيــن الأصالــة وروح العصــر. كمـــا وجدنـــا فـــي الغـــرب شـــخصيّات بـــارزة تتوشّـــم بالحنّـــاء خـــلال زياراتهـــا للعالـــم العربـــيّ، فـــي مشـــهد يُعيـــد تأكيـــد رمزيّـــة هـــذا الفـــن وعمقـــه الثقافـــيّ. ففـــي عـــام ، زارت كاثريـــن، أميـــرة ويلـــز [كيـــت 2018 ميدلتـــون]، مدينـــة ســـندرلاند، وهـــو مركـــز للفنّانيـــن، حيـــث جلســـت إلـــى إحـــدى المراهقـــات، التـــي قامـــت برســـم الحنّـــاء علـــى يدهـــا. التُقطـــت اللّحظـــة بعدســـات

Artistic circles, too, have begun to elevate henna from folk adornment to fine art. For instance, Riyad.ai is dedicated to bringing Arabia’s rich history and culture to life through art. One notable painting, titled simply as “Henna Ceremony”, captures a sunlit courtyard where women adorn one another with intricate henna designs. Rendered with the intimacy reminiscent of Renoir’s style, and evoking the warm earth tones of red, orange, and brown, the work celebrates not only the visual beauty of the tradition, but also the deep bonds and shared heritage among women. Today, a new generation of henna artists is redefining this centuries-old tradition for contemporary audienc- es. Social media has been a powerful catalyst in hen- na’s modern evolution. Platforms, such as Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest, have become vibrant art galler- ies for henna artists, allowing them to showcase their work to a global audience. Videos of the application process and tutorials have turned henna into a much- sought accessory for special occasions. This digital ex- posure has also created new entrepreneurial opportuni- ties for henna artists, allowing them to connect with a broader client base. One lovely example is the work of UAE-based artist and designer Dr Azra Khamissa, whose name has become synonymous with a contemporary, bold, minimalist henna appeal. Her styles also veers on the abstract aesthetic, though she finds much inspiration from heritage. Her contemporary henna art has been pivotal in reframing henna as a modern, expressive medium on the global stage. She uses henna as a vessel for expression and to amplify global humanitarian feelings, as she explains, “I use henna, primarily, to convey all of my emotions, especially very strong emotions.” Through a fusion of henna and photography, she ex- plores important contemporary issues, while celebrat- ing the rich cultural tapestry of the Southwest Asia and North Africa region. Instead of the intricate and complex motifs, her creations are airy and deliberate: a single-line flower unfurling across the wrist, a scatter- ing of geometric shapes, or an Arabic word traced in el- egant calligraphy upon the skin. To make her art more accessible, Dr Azra has crafted sticker stencils, allow- ing anyone to recreate playful henna motifs at home. Dr Azra has collaborated with Lebanese artist Nourie Flayhan, who designed an elegant floral henna stencil as an ode to tatreez , the traditional Levantine embroi- dery her grandmother once stitched. The piece reima- gines this heritage craft in henna form, offering a de- sign sure to resonate with women across the region. Flayhan’s style blends cultural symbols with warm, vibrant palettes, instantaneously riveting audienc- es with emotive storytelling rooted in Arab heritage, personal memories, and playful details. Flayhan has partnered with Adidas on an exclusive Ramadan cap- sule collection celebrating Dubai. The line of T-shirts and hoodies, reimagined in Flayhan’s signature illus- trative style, features a one-off design inspired by UAE emblems, in the form of the palm tree, henna, and seven stars for the seven Emirates. Celebrity influence has also played a notable role in keeping henna in the public eye, both in the Middle East and internationally. أو كلمــة عربيّــة مكتوبــة بخــط أنيــق علــى البشـرة. ولجعـل فنّهـا فـي متنـاول الجميـع، ابتكــرت خميســة قوالــب لاصقــة، تُعيــد إنتــاج هــذه النّقــوش المرحــة، فتتيــح لأي شـخص أن يجـرّب، فـي بيتـه، متعـة رسـم الحنّــاء بطابــع عصــري وســريع. وقــد امتــد أثــر الحنّــاء اليــوم إلــى مشــاريع فنيّــة تعاونيّــة لافتــة، منهــا مــا جمــع خميســة بزميلتهــا الفنّانــة اللبنانيّــة نــوري فليحــان. فقــد صمّمــت فليحــان قالبــا أنيقــا للحنّــاء، مســتوحى مــن فــن التّطريــز التقليـديّ، الـذي اعتـادت جدّتهـا أن تحيكـه بخيــوط يدويّــة دقيقــة. وكان لهــذه القطعـة الفنيّــة دور فـي إحيـاء هـذا الإرث الثقافــيّ، مقدّمــة تصميمــا لاقــى صــدى واســعا لــدى محبّــات الحنّــاء فــي جميــع أنحــاء المنطقــة. ويمــزج أســلوب فليحــان بيــن الرّمــوز الثقافيّــة والألــوان الدافئــة والنّابضــة بالحيــاة، ليجــذب الجمهــور بســرد قصصــي عاطفــيّ، متجــذّر فــي التّــراث العربــيّ، والذّكريــات الشــخصيّة، والتّفاصيــل المرحــة. ولعــل أبــرز محطّاتهــا مؤخــراً، تعاونهــا مــع شــركة “أديــداس” فــي إصــدار مجموعــة حصريّــة لشــهر رمضـان، احتفـت بدبـيّ، وتكوّنـت مـن تـي شـيرتات وكنـزات رياضيّــة، تزيّنـت برسـوم مسـتوحاة مـن رمـوز دولـة الإمـارات، علـى شـكل: شـجرة النّخيـل، والحنّــاء، والنّجـوم السّــبع التــي تمثّــل إمــارات الدّولــة. ولعــب حضــور المشــاهير دورا لافتــا فــي إبقــاء الحنّــاء فــي دائــرة الضّــوء، ســواء

بــرزت للفنّانــات فــرص جديــدة لريــادة الأعمـال، إذ بـات فـي وسـعهن التواصـل مـع زبائــن فــي أنحــاء العالــم كافّــة. ومــن بيــن الأمثلــة المضيئــة، تُعــد أعمــال الفنّانــة والمصمّمــة عــذراء خميســة، المقيمــة فــي الإمــارات، مثــالا رائعــا علــى تجديــد فــن الحنّــاء. غــدا اســمها رديفــا لجماليّــات الحنّــاء المعاصــرة، بجرأتهــا وبسـاطتها معـاً. أسـلوبها يميـل أحيانـا إلـى التّصاميــم التجريديّــة، غيــر أن جــذوره تمتــد عميقــا فــي التّــراث. وقــد لعــب فــن الحنّــاء المعاصــر الــذي ابتكرتــه دورا محوريّــا فـي إعـادة تعريـف هـذا الفـن كأداة تعبيريّــة حديثــة علــى السّــاحة العالميّــة. تســتخدم خميســة الحنّــاء كوســيلة للتّعبيـر عـن المشـاعر الإنسـانيّة المشـتركة، وتوضّــح قائلــةً: “أســتخدم الحنّــاء، بالدّرجــة الأولــى، لأعبّــر عــن كل مشــاعري، ولا ســيّما أقواهــا وأشــدّها.” ومــن خــلال مــزج الحنّــاء بالتّصويــر الفوتوغرافــيّ، تستكشــف خميســة قضايــا معاصـرة كبـرى، مسـتثمرة هـذا الفـن ليكون أداة للتأمّــل، والاحتفــاء فــي الوقــت ذاتــه بالثّــراء الثقافــي لمنطقــة جنــوب غــرب آســيا وشــمال إفريقيــا. وهــي لا تلجــأ إلــى النّقــوش المعقّــدة والمتشــابكة التــي ألِفهــا النّــاس، بــل تبتــدع زخــارف تتميّــز بالخفّــة والحضــور القــويّ، إلــى جانــب البســاطة المدروسـة، وتظهـر فـي أشـكال مثـل: زهـرة بخــط واحــد تتفتّــح علــى المعصــم، أو مجموعـة متفرّقـة مـن الأشـكال الهندسـيّة،

Today’s henna artists and enthusiasts have cultivated a fusion of styles, blending traditional designs to form new, rapturous renditions. The modern aesthetic of- ten embraces minimalism and delicate details, with designs that feature intricate wrist patterns, delicate ankle cuffs, or even whimsical symbols, such as musi- cal notes, favourite words, and ribbons. In that sense, henna has become a form of wearable art that draws in- spiration from a constellation of muses, with some art- ists creating “lace boudoir gloves” or intricate designs that mimic modern accessories. Henna’s centuries-old motifs are blossoming anew in the hands of contemporary artists, designers, and so- cial media creators across the Arab World and beyond. This modern renaissance gained symbolic weight in 2024, when henna was inscribed on the UNESCO’s Rep- resentative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The inscription, submitted jointly by the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, the State of Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen, was both a tribute to henna’s deep roots and a collective pledge to safeguard it. Henna’s influence has excitingly extended beyond the skin, weaving its way into the wider world of Arab-in- spired art and design. For instance, its intricate mo- tifs now appear in home décor, from henna-inspired throw pillows and wallpaper to tableware, as well as in modern graphic design where henna-inspired art brandish logos and illustrations. Fashion houses across the region reinterpret these patterns in em- broidery and prints; where a couturier, for instance, might transform the swirling florals of a traditional henna pattern work into shimmering gold thread ap- pliqué on a gown.
