We continuously monitor the impact of winning solutions to ensure that the climate leadership remains effective, scalable and sustainable in the long term. A recent example is Keep IT Cool [2024 winner] and Roam [2022 finalist], which have partnered to build Africa’s first elec- tric cold chain delivery network in Kenya. By combining Keep IT Cool’s solar-powered refrigeration with Roam’s electric motorcycles, they are creating a clean, scalable system to transport fresh food across cities, helping reduce post-harvest losses, cut emissions and, crucially, im- prove food safety and public health. Coral Vita is pioneering high-tech methods to grow corals up to 50 times faster than in nature and improve their resilience to the impact of climate change. After winning The Earthshot Prize in 2021, it financed a major restoration project off the coast of Grand Bahama, working with local community experts to grow more than 20,000 corals. It also recently raised USD 8 million in series A funding to scale coral reef restoration globally. This is the first investment round of its kind for a coral restoration company. Costa Rica is also using The Earthshot Prize award money to pilot a ma- rine Payment for Ecosystem Services [PES] programme in the Nicoya Gulf. Building on over two decades of pioneering forest PES schemes, this initiative rewards landowners for sustainable land use in man- grove forests, critical habitats that support biodiversity, fisheries and climate resilience. These examples highlight the transformative power of The Earthshot Prize by not only identifying ambitious climate leadership, but by help- ing to amplify and sustain its impact worldwide. How is The Earthshot Prize financed? The Earthshot Prize receives support from our global network of sup- porters and partners, which includes multinational companies, phi- lanthropists and other organisations committed to advancing innova- tive and inspiring environmental solutions. The Earthshot Prize fund is managed independently, ensuring that resources are exclusively al- located to supporting and expanding the winning solutions. Each win- ner receives a GBP 1 million prize to invest directly in the growth and implementation of their solution. The use of these funds is monitored to ensure that the expected impact is achieved. What can we expect from this year’s Earthshot Prize awards in Rio de Janeiro in November? Are there any new elements or special focuses in store for this year’s ceremony?

We’re excited to host this year’s Earthshot Prize awards for the first time in South America. Brazil’s incredible biodiversity makes it the ideal place to celebrate climate leadership. This year marks the half- way point of the Earthshot Decade. With the awards ceremony just before COP30, it’s a pivotal moment to spotlight groundbreaking pro- jects from Brazil, Latin America and beyond. We’re proud to see a re- cord number of Brazilian and South American nominations this year, reflecting growing local momentum. To amplify this inspiring climate leadership, we have partnered with Globo, Latin America’s largest broadcaster, reaching millions of homes. We are finalising Earthshot Week, tailored to connect innovators, investors and environmental leaders. Our goal is to boost visibility for Brazilian, Latin American and global climate leaders, while fostering strategic partnerships. This is a moment for action, collaboration and optimism. I can’t wait to see the impact we’ll make in Rio. Why was Rio de Janeiro chosen as the host city for this year’s awards, what can we learn from the people and communities across Brazil and how do you see Brazil’s role in the global envi- ronmental movement, particularly given its biodiversity and eco- logical significance? Brazil plays a central role in the global climate agenda. Home to the majority of the Amazon Rainforest and one of the world’s richest bi- odiversities, the country is at the heart of efforts for environmental preservation and climate change mitigation. Additionally, Brazil has demonstrated remarkable progress by combining technological innova- tion with regenerative practices and nature-based solutions. The 2025
