WHEREAS, the LSMS policy 244.03 “Obesity - Intervention Funding” supports funding and creating funding sources to pay for medication and support non-surgical interventions to manage obesity in the state of Louisiana; therefore, be it
RESOLVED , the LSMS seek and/or support legislation for the utilization and coverage of GLP-1 agonist for those who met the existing criteria and are unable to access these medications, and be it further
RESOLVED , the LSMS recognizes the growing concern and health care burden obesity and diabetes place on the health care system and urges the state to promote organizations and initiatives built towards tackling this problem through both conservative measures (e.g. lifestyle, diet, exercise) and approaches and through medical management to assist those in maintaining a normal weight. We urge the LSMS to introduce more evidence-based methods that may further lead to the advocacy, utilization, and coverage of GLP-1 agonist medications for all patients who meet the existing criteria.
