THE

Sublime science! Bonkers Beryl

SLIME Last Friday, Year 1 were visited by a real life scientist! ‘Bonkers Beryl’ from Sublime Science arrived at Abbey with a whole range of experiments and tricks. The children were given their own mad scientist name and watched Beryl conduct some science experiments. Then, they were able to join in and make their own sherbet and slime, with explanations of the chemical reactions. We saw some unusual faces being made when the children tasted the sherbet. Pheonix in 1K said, “It tasted really spicy and was popping in my mouth!” What a sizzling way to conclude our learning about famous scientists, and for the children to see a female scientist in action. Thanks to Mrs Kaur for the story. DRUM AND DANCE The memorable day began by every year 6 class having a discussion about what we would be experiencing that day. As we went back, Mr. Jones introduced us into our topic - ‘From Slave trade to Fair Trade’. After this, we all went into the hall and learnt our drumming piece. Next, we started to learn our dance. The dance helped us learn about, and begin our understanding of how Africans were shipped to the Caribbean to work as slaves. We then made our way into the hall to perform our drumming and dancing to our parents. Finally, we all witnessed an amazing sight where our dance teacher did the limbo - almost to the floor! Thanks to 6J for the story
