The Bessie Williamson Story™, is a tribute to Bessie and her work at Laphroaig, along with her warm, rich and unmistakably-Islay character.

Williamson was born in Glasgow in 1910 to John Williamson, a gunner in France with the Royal Garrison Artillery and Agnes Whyte. She attended the University of Glasgow from 1927, intending to become a teacher, graduating in 1932. After graduating in 1932, Bessie accepted a summer job at Laphroaig distillery intending to stay only a few months. She worked directly with then owner Ian Hunter, eventually taking on responsibility for US distribution. By World War II, she had become the full-time distillery man- ager and the most senior woman in the Scotch industry. Bessie was an early proponent of single malt scotches who played a pivotal role in positioning Laphroaig, and by extension other Islay malts, for the American market. The Scotch Whisky Association named Williamson as its American spokesperson from 1961 to 1964 and she toured the US representing Islay whisky to buyers and distributors. The Bessie Williamson Story™ is presented in a beautifully crafted book that details Bessie’s story in depth, and includes tasting notes and a message from John Campbell, Distillery Manager.

Budweiser Reserve Black Lager is a bold, bour- bon-forward beer that’s perfect for the holidays.” Budweiser Reserve Black Lager is available nationwide from October through December, while supplies last. Budweiser Reserve Copper Lager is available nationwide through March 2020. Both brews will be available in stubby glass bottles across the US. Portland Cider Co. releases Fruit Forward Community Cider

Clackamas, OR: Portland Cider Co. asked Portland- area neighbours to recycle their fallen and unwanted backyard fruit this sum- mer, and the community responded in a big way.

Portland Cider Co. collected over 400 bushels - or 16,000 lbs - of apples, plus fruits and berries. As a result of the generosity, Portland Cider has made a record quantity of its annual Fruit Forward Community Cider. The company has pledged to donate 100% of the net proceeds of sales of this community cider to Hunger-Free Schools, a program of Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon that works to ensure students of all ages and levels have enough to eat. “We were thrilled with the level of turnout from the community for this year’s cider,” said Jeff Parrish, co-owner of Portland Cider Co. “We anticipate raising more than $10,000 from the sale of this year’s Community Cider, more than double last year’s amount. This will have a big impact for Hunger-Free Oregon and students across the state.” More cider means greater opportunities to raise funds for Hunger- Free Oregon. Portland Cider Co. has partnered with Maletis Beverage to sell kegs of the community cider to draft accounts in Oregon. The cidery will donate all net prots from the sales of the kegs through Maletis to the non-prot: $80 per each ½-barrel keg and $40 per each-barrel kegs, which equates to 40% of revenue for every keg sold. Additionally, Portland Cider is partnering with a handful of retail draft accounts to put together Fruit Forward Community Cider
