AP NSW meeting at Brix Distillery

NSW held another technical at a very new and exciting venue in October at Brix Distillers not far from Sydney’s CBD. They have only been operating for over 12 months and are pushing Sydney’s rich Rum history into an excit- ing new era. We had 30 attendees and James Christopher, the Co-Owner led us through a riveting tour and tasting, showcasing their craftsmanship and demonstrating how they are creating a great experience for new customers at their Surry Hills distillery. The NSW craft distilling revolution is well underway! This was all followed by a superbly- delivered technical presentation from Endeavour Drinks’ Diarmaid O’Morhda. A great reminder that the breweries and distilleries are one of the many key parts of the supply chain, and how a bad quality complaint can damage the reputation of the whole industry. This is especially poignant for small brewers

James explaining the process in front of the Distillation plant

Pride of Pride Eight people from Lion’s Pride Brewery successfully passed June 2019 Diploma exams in Brewing or Packaging. Pictured is a cele- bration of their success back in October. One candidate completed her Diploma in Brewing - Joanna Stacey – with the other successful candidates (L-R) are Matthew Ward, Liam Macintosh, Maria Fialko, Lorna Lee, Joanna Stacey and Steve Adkins. Missing from the photo are Alex Usatov and Dave Anderson. who are pushing the boundaries of experimental and are wearing so many hats in their business that there may be small gaps in their technical knowledge. That’s why the IBD exists, to share knowledge and help our industry thrive into the future. Then followed some nger food and washed down with 4 Pines Amber Ale kindly donated by 4 Pines Brewery (thank you Chris) and, for those willing to try them, some expertly crafted rum cocktails which made for an outstanding night and great tasting experiences. During the latter part of the evening, James was stoked to share stories with some former members of CSR’s Pyrmont renery and distillery both of which closed down in the early 1990s. We would like to thank James and his staff for their wonderful hospitality - it is certainly a great venue and made a very enjoyable evening for our members and guests.
