INTRO

This style guide contains the core brand elements including logo, color, typography and graphic architecture. Some sections are a work in progress and will be updated with new examples. This document is evolving and subsequent versions will add sections including brand manifesto, voice, social, digital, etc.

LOGO

Color The logo in color is the primary

version. Use the color versions of the logo where possible. The preferred background is black, but the logo may also appear on white.

1-color Black For materials produced only in grayscale, use the black version of the logo.

Special Use The logo can be used on background images that are not distracting or complex. Harvester logo is a black logo bar with yellow type. It is preferred to be used on the defined yellow background.

Logo & Message Website URL should be used when a call-to-action would be to find more information or find a product. World’s #1 Saw Chain ™ should be used for Forestry marketing and only in North America. Sharper By Nature ™ is used as an overarching statement that applies to all categories. It should not be used on packaging.

Create sufficient clear space around the logo. Minimum “breathing room” should be proportionate to the height of the logo. Keep this area free of distracting elements, including type, keylines, and photographic details.

With a relatively small footprint, the Oregon logo is fairly compact, making it easy to reproduce at small sizes. However, it should not fall below 0.5" wide for print applications and 45px wide for digital touch points. The recommended minimum sizes for the logo in their different media environments are shown at actual sizes above.

An exception to the minimum clear rule is when the descriptor is used with the logo. In this instance, there is a 1/2x clear space between the logo and the descriptor across all versions.

When the descriptor is used with the Oregon logo, the recommended minimum sizes for print and digital applications are specified above.

COLOR

Harvester Primary Colors Primary colors help consumers to quickly identify the Oregon Harvester category. These are the core colors of the brand.

Available Fonts Artegra Sans is the principle typeface for Oregon. Preferrably, reserve Condensed for situations with limited space. There are many ways to combine weights for desired hierarchy of information and the allowed space.

Best Practices Headlines and copy should be left justified, kerned and tightly leaded. This communicates toughness, strength and durability. Anchored to a corner, side or baseline gives the Oregon message a strong foundation and sense of stability. Keylines can be used to separate/ compartmentalize information to help with legibililty and structure.

ARCHITECTURE

Sharp. Precise. Forward.

Represents cutting angles, half of the perfect 90-degree angle. Motion in action, adds dynamic effect to otherwise flat design layouts. Can be used as bar or slice off corner. A more pronounced cut (deeper negative space) communicates strong, sharp, intentional graphic. Red bar can be multipled over photos or textures to enhance depth and visual interest. Allows the texture to shine through complimenting the negative space.

Border Margin When creating frames for layouts, make the margins for borders thick, strong, and purposeful.

Border Color The border may appear in black, white or texture. Do not use red.

Product Placement For clarity, products should be placed on white, and can overlap onto color blocks.

Note: The white space between images/graphics shoud be half the size of the outside border.

Almost 75 years ago, Joseph Buford Cox witnessed the sawing motion of a timber beetle larvae burrowing through a piece of wood. Curious, Joe took the larvae back to his Portland, Oregon, basement for a closer inspection. By observing C-shaped jaws under a magnifying glass, he designed, manufactured and patented the “chipper saw chain” and started the Oregon Saw Chain Company in 1947. Today, all the saw chain produced in the world utilizes the design Joe Cox developed in the 40s.
