A n exciting opportunity has arisen for the perfect UK payroll professional. The outstanding applicant must be incredibly resilient, empathetic and technically proficient in all aspects of payroll. The successful candidate will demonstrate relevant payroll qualifications, skills in leadership, compliance, change management and software competency. Furthermore, the perfect UK payroll professional must have experience processing payrolls for in-house employees, expats, outsourced bureau clients and umbrella, CIS, IR35 and off-payroll contractors. Experience processing payrolls across all industry verticals in public and private sectors and all pay frequencies is also essential. Technical skills required ● expertise in manual calculations, PAYE, income tax, NICs and student loan deductions, coupled with up to date knowledge of RTI, the EPS and the FPS, termination payment calculations and overpayment recovery processes ● the ability to calculate statutory payments, including SSP, SMP, SAP, SPP, ShPP and SPBP, are crucial skills ● compensation, benefits and reward management and administration experience, including total reward statements and benefit renewals is also necessary ● experience in processing benefit in kind calculations, salary sacrifice and optional remuneration arrangements, SAYE schemes, P11D calculations, expenses, payroll benefits and associated reporting is absolutely critical ● successful candidates should also be familiar with niche educational payrolls, including TPS and LGPS schemes ● experience processing expat payrolls, including knowledge of double tax agreements, tax equalisation schemes and travel and subsistence payments processes is essential ● advanced knowledge of GDPR, apprenticeship levy entitlements and automatic enrolment would also be advantageous ● experience administering starters and leavers, court orders, HMRC remittances and tax code changes is vital ● advanced Excel skills and knowledge of all payroll systems available in the market are requisite expectations. Qualifications required ● we expect the perfect payroll candidate to hold relevant qualifications, such as the CIPP Diploma in Payroll Management. Other certifications in project management, lean processes, data analytics and leadership would also be beneficial.

Personality profile: ● the successful payroll candidate will demonstrate exemplary communication and commendable decision-making skills, and be comfortable managing both third-party vendor relationships and senior stakeholders ● team management skills are essential, as this payroll vacancy will require the perfect UK payroll professional to lead teams and manage appraisals, recruitment, disciplinaries and succession plans ● all experience must be supported by a robust knowledge of employment law, equal opportunities and GDPR ● the successful incumbent will use data to produce board-level management reports, identify cost savings and implement process improvements; therefore, expert data analysis and interrogation skills are imperative ● experience in implementing new payrolls and systems, including upgrades, is critical. The ability to demonstrate first-class project and change management skills to lead system evaluations, upgrades, parallel runs, UAT and payroll transformation programmes are crucial ● knowledge of RPA to improve efficiency and service delivery is expected to ensure the payroll department stays ahead of the rapidly advancing technologies impacting the payroll industry ● an ability to think strategically to provide insights and analytics that impact board-level objectives is also required. Ultimately, we seek someone with a passion for payroll compliance, with a particular interest in legislation that impacts NMW, NLW, pensions and reporting, coupled with proven skills in managing and improving payroll services while simultaneously managing teams, employee relationships and client issues. An ability to predict the future to ensure the payroll department is always ahead of market trends concerning pay-on-demand, cryptocurrency payrolls, blockchain transactions, RPA and changing compliance, would also be particularly advantageous. However, please note, we don’t consider this essential, providing you’re content to competently respond to unforeseeable circumstances or force majeure events with little notice, support or additional reward.
