Councillor’s Corner by Jean Coles Ward 1 Councillor, Municipality of Middlesex Centre Coles@middlesexcentre.ca Hello Everyone,

Stargazing: Visit a low-light area, like a farm field or the outskirts of town, and marvel at the night sky. ‘ Unplug & Reconnect’ Challenge : Turn off lights and elec- tronics, enjoy board games, share stories or have a candlelit dinner with family. Eco Pledge Jar : Write down small but impactful eco-friendly pledges, such as reducing plastic use, recycling (did you know Bluewater Recycling does not accept Tetra Paks?), walking instead of driving or reducing food waste. Community Clean-Up : Join the Ilderton Optimists for a roadside clean-up this spring. If you can’t attend, consider picking up litter while out for a walk – you might even spot me doing the same! Find out what our five conservation authorities are doing to help clean up our community. If you, your business or community group is interested in organizing a neighbourhood clean-up of a park or roadside, we can help! The municipality will provide free gloves and garbage bags for clean-up events and will pick up the bags after your event free of charge. Save Energy : Small lifestyle changes can make a big dif- ference! Consider: carpooling with neighbours to hockey practice, using Middlesex County Connect to get to Masonville Mall, switching to LED bulbs at home, exploring the Canada Greener Homes Initiative for home retrofits, checking out our municipality’s green initiative grants under the Community Improvement Plan (up to $7,500 for eligible businesses). Stay Connected Follow me on Facebook to stay updated on exciting de- velopments in our community, including the upcoming Ilderton Arena upgrades. Until next time, stay engaged and stay connected!
