Ensure that funding is maximised and compliance with all scheme requirements is maintained. – Ensure sustainable management of the estate’s natural resources, implementing practices and initiatives that contribute to long term environmental resilience and viability. – Lead the development of carbon capture and natural capital projects, promoting the sequestration of carbon through woodland management, wetland restoration and other land- based interventions. – Oversee traditional forestry management practices, ensuring that woodlands are sustainably managed for timber production, habitat creation and biodiversity. – Oversee farming practices to enhance soil health, support habitat restoration and biodiversity. – Operational management responsibility for countryside management, grounds maintenance, forestry and woodland management, farming and sporting. – Establish a robust system for monitoring and evaluating conservation outcomes, ensuring that objectives are met and continuously improved. Provide regular reports on conservation activities, results and financial performance to the Chief Executive, stakeholders and trustees. – Collaborate with the Visitor Experience
Strategic Leadership – Provide visionary and strategic leadership to develop and implement long-term conservation goals in line with biodiversity enhancement, financial viability and climate resilience at a landscape-scale. Develop a comprehensive land use vision and oversee implementation across all divisional functions. – Provide active leadership and direction to Lulworth’s Natural Environment Team, across the disciplines of ecology, countryside, landscapes and gardens, forestry, farming and marine, setting an example and fostering a high- performance culture within a growth environment. – Contribute to wider organisational strategy and sub-strategies as a senior member of the leadership team, working with other Directors and the Chief Executive Officer. Lead on the integration of conservation and sustainability priorities into the estate’s broader goals and operations, establishing Lulworth Estate as a leader in sustainable land management. – Establish and communicate clear, measurable objectives for the Division, ensuring alignment with national environmental goals and being reflective of the unique characteristics of the estate. Monitor and report on progress. – Establish and maintain strong relationships with external partners and statutory bodies to drive forward collaborative initiatives, share knowledge and ensure compliance. – Oversee sustainable land practices that support both conservation and agriculture, including grazing, with the estate’s livestock, forestry and woodland management, and ecosystem restoration. Purpose of the role To deliver pivotal leadership and oversee the long-term management of the Lulworth Estate’s natural environment and resources, with a strong emphasis on operational efficiency, financial sustainability, and innovation. At the forefront of developing the estate’s conservation strategy, the Director will blend practical land management expertise with cutting-edge environmental knowledge, ensuring that the estate’s landscapes are actively conserved and enhanced for future generations, while ensuring regulatory compliance and financial performance. This is a results-driven, senior leadership position that requires a passionate, technically strong and systematic approach. A hands- on leader, the Director will lead by example, actively engaging with the estate’s operations and conservation initiatives. Being directly involved in the day-to-day management, the Director will demonstrate best practices and inspire the team, stakeholders and partners. Leading from the front, they will set the standard for effective and efficient land management, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
