WHAT IS THE CAMP’S MISSION AND PHILOSOPHY? Encouraging personal growth by providing an excellent program facilitated by highly trained staff. Anchored in this safe community, campers have fun, acquire new skills, and develop a sense of belonging. WHAT SAFETY MEASURES ARE IN PLACE? We train staff beyond lawful requirements to uphold high standards. We are 3-6x background checked, have locked buildings and a locked gate surrounding our campus. WHAT IS THE CAMPER-TO- COUNSELOR RATIO? We require 5:1-8:1 ratios depending on the age. Small ratios help in teaching campers new skill and receiving individual attention and support. HOW ARE STAFF MEMBERS SCREENED AND TRAINED? Three professional references, extensive written staff application, 3-6x background checks, personal interview, PDIS certified, 35-47 hrs staff orientation plus weekly staff meetings focused on child and staff development training. IS THERE A DAILY SCHEDULE, AND CAN YOU PROVIDE AN EXAMPLE? We have 8 activity blocks per day where campers rotate every 30-60 minutes. Older campers have electives. At YMCA Summer Camp includes physical activity, art projects, games, time outdoors, character development & social emotional learning — not to mention two field trips each week! WHAT SAFETY MEASURES ARE IN PLACE? Our extensive safety measures are covered in our parent handbook which is made available prior to camp commencement. WHAT IS THE CAMPER-TO- COUNSELOR RATIO? The YMCA follows the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) guidelines. The YMCA Summer Camp ratio is 1:15. HOW ARE STAFF MEMBERS SCREENED AND TRAINED? Great care is taken in interviewing candidates, screenings and background checks. All summer camp staff undergoes extensive training prior to the start of our camp sessions. ARE THERE OPPORTUNITIES FOR FREE PLAY OR DOWNTIME? Absolutely! In our day camps, morning and afternoon snacks are a great time for downtime. We also offer recess every day to get out some energy. HOW DOES THE CAMP HANDLE HEALTH ISSUES AND ALLERGIES? Once you register for summer camp, medical forms are required to be filled out. Any health issues and/or allergies will be brought to the attention of the child’s site supervisor. ARE THERE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS TO VISIT OR PARTICIPATE IN CAMP ACTIVITIES? While we welcome visits from parents, to lessen disruption, please coordinate with your site supervisor.

Yes, every camper has 30-45 min rest period which may include guided visualizations, yoga stretches, deep breathing, meditation, story time, quiet time, or free play. HOW DOES THE CAMP HANDLE HEALTH ISSUES AND ALLERGIES? Personal information is kept confidential with an acute attention to detail. We administer medications, create alternative programming, are peanut free and treat our community with inclusivity, fairness and care. ARE THERE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS TO VISIT OR PARTICIPATE IN CAMP ACTIVITIES? Of course! We love our parents and grandparents and welcome them into our community. Camp tours are available upon request by our director.
